About time as well! I wondered when they would do that. It was a bit unfair just having moyles on there and nobody else

Apparently the BBC are at some point this year going to start offering downloadable windows media files for all the shows on listen again. They will be locked so after 7 days they cant be played.

They're going to do TV shows soon too.

This means I'll never miss Mill's Celeb phone call again!

There was a mini-moyles update today saying that listen again won't be available on monday. I also noticed that the radio1 homepage was down for a little while this afternoon.

The BBCi TV feature is available (AFAIK) to BBC staff. It will be available once the BBC finish their new codec (a encryped, half-the-size-of-mpeg2 file if your intreased)

Is this Podcasting?

Just found a link on 5Live website and it all sounded familiar...

Then I did a BBC search engine search for 'podcasting' and found a mention of our (well, Radio 1's) saviour too, old news but I didn't look at the date til I saw it was about figures for november.

I've had a look at the AutoROT (automatic recording of transmission) feature on their intranet for radio programmes. It has 24 hour coverage of 5 live and radio 4 going back months in advance. Only covers newsbeat on Radio 1. Also has telly news on it.

DemonHorse - to answer your question, PodCasting is the audio equivalent to RSS feeds for blogs. Just as for blogs, where you can create an RSS feed for people to pick up using their favourite RSS reader software, iPodder allows creation of feeds for audio. So if you get the iPodder software you can pick up your favourite audio feeds. There's more information at http://www.ipodder.org/.

I just tried downloading iPodder and it's working well in tandem with iTunes on Windows XP. You can subscribe to your favourite audio shows, it's pretty cool. I'm sure none of them are as good as the Chris Moyles show though ...

The BBC expanding it's listen again and TV program downloadability is brilliant news. This is why I love the BBC, what commercial organisations would do this?

But yes: apparantly the TV show distribution will be based on P2P (peer to peer).

BBC wrote:The BBC has already decided to embrace the technology.

It aims to offer most of its own programmes for download this year and it will use P2P technology to distribute them.

The files would be locked seven days after a programme aired making rights management easier to control.

Great news. Shouldn't be too hard to prevent the files locking.. someone will have too much spare time and find a way.

Will this mean you can watch TV without a licence?

My thoughts... I was going down the route of... You will have an account name and password with your licence, if you will... but thats too complicated (i recon).

Mabey this is the beginning of the commercialized BBC?

Plus the BBC has nearly as many ads as the commercial (terrestrial) stations now.. Granted they're for their own products, but they're still ads. Also, doesn't the BBC own UKTV?

the bbc claims it funds digital channels and the like via its commercial profits but how could it make those profits without the stability of the licence fee?

I think its a disgrace there are channels i cant see without purchasing further equipment.

Oh grow up. In a few years everybody will have access to these channels. It's only because there is no space on the analoge signal that you have to have digital to get them.

I maintain that the BBC is something we as a nation should be very very proud of.

Despite some of the absolute crap it produces... guess it kinda balances with the good stuff.

I agree about the bbc to be something to be proud of but the way it has been run and the choices it has made have been very dubious.
