The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I was reading an interview with Christian O'Connell the other week, and a couple of things he was saying about Moyles got me thinking. He was basically saying that Chris's show now is stale and boring cos it has too many people working on it, whereas (according to O'Connell) on local radio Moyles was brilliant cos he was on his own. He said that when there is less people it allows for better creativity and therefore better radio. I have no reason to respect his opinion at all, but I definitely remember the show being better when there was less people on it. Chris, Dave, a producer and BA - that was it.

Now I accept that on Breakfast Dom and Carrie have to become like two extra members of the team, and thats fine. Infact I think Dom has been the best thing to happen to the show in years. But outside that, is there any need for these other people like Jocelyn? - and by that I mean is there any need for them on air? It's not like it improves the show - cos I can't be on my own in thinking its been a bit boring so far this year. Where are the new features to replace Buzz Off etc? All we've had so far is Whattittiwhat - and bar that its the same old rubbish pub quizzes, football ticket giveaways and football predictions.

I was listening back today to tapes from summer 03, and the shows were f*ckin brilliant. Now though they seem lazy...

Anyone agree?

stick carrie just to sport and dont have rachel or joceyln speak. i know, harsh but rachel adds nothing to the show.

we did have Aled overload a while back and I wouldn't mind getting rid of the after news links that go nowhere but some great shows were when a few people have been involved.

About a year ago I did some freelance bits and pieces for TalkSport - they used to bitch about the fact that BBC Radio stations use twice the amount of staff than what's actually needed and that BA's have it easy at the BBC.

does Chris not have a jingle about the ammount of staffing on the breakfast show at the momment? Cant remember the exact wording of it...

Breakfast shows generally run competitions to give away tickets that dont really require any special DJ to be able to do the feature. Possibly this is why Moyles may not always be suited to breakfast.

Personally nothings wrong with the Chris Moyles show (and that shows through Rajarr) but i feel with that interview has some slight DJ Jeliously?????????

Moyles is still the best thing on the radio, but I think a lot of people (myself included) that hes not as good as he once was.

In the summer when I talked about Chris Moyles it was always 'Chris and Comedy Dave' now when I talk to them about it, it's the "newsreader" or the "woman" etc. In a way I'm glad we don't hear too much from Natasha.

But I think having them there adds something other stations don't have, a strong team.

It's just how many people these things take.

For the record the current team are:

Chris and Dave - Presenters
Rachel and Will - Producers (Morning and Day)
Aled - Acting Producer (Day) while Will is working on Comic Relief 'till April
Jocelin - Morning BA (until Aled swaps back in April)
Natasha - Daytime BA (until Jocelin swaps back in April)
Fergus - Exec Prodcuer

and, of course:

Dom - News
Carrie - Sport

Will some of them work on other shows as well? Like Fergus can't just work on Moyles...

Well certainly when the show was on in the afternoon their exective producer was exec for some other shows, dunno if Uncle Ferg and breakfast is different though...

Also she barely says anything so it would hardly have an effect.

True, due to unique way the show is funded, and license fees, we get two producers. i bet most breakfast shows up and down the country are crying out for a producer (btw producer for hire, reasonable rates enquire within) and the need to have two is shambolic.

most breakfast shows up and down the country aren't as big as the radio 1 breakfast show though to be fair. I mean other than Wogan how many others get figures close to Moyles?

I must agree with the only one and David. Having spoken about the Chris Moyles Show now compared with when he did afternoons, the show has grown to being more of a breakfast show rather than his own style of show. The jingles have changed, there's less zoo format and it sounds moyles cannot do things he used to do.

He's definately still the best presenter in the country, but would any of you like to see him back on afternoons in a couple years and allow someone else (Not Coxy!), back on breakfasts so we may see Moyles back at his peak again?

On the the subject of over-staffing, I think its fine to the degree that it provides Moyles with more people to slag off in the morning.

I'm interested, i've got a project called 'the egotistical jon hoare * up breakfast show through his inability to produce properly'. I've got a feeling, your just the man for the job.

Back on topic, why is a morning and day producer needed? I can see why the show requires lots of people working on it but surely a morning producer/broadcast assitant s required to work hours outside of showtime?[/quote]

Hmm, I prefered Mills being on from 3. So Moyles back at 3, he'd have teens coming out of school.

The BBC take the piss really. They could really slim down the organistation somewhat but then they wouldn't bew one of the top 10 employers in the country.

Talksport have an anti BBC agenda. It comes from the top, Kelvin McKenzie, ex editor of the Current Bun and self proclaimed Tory Pig in a Wig.

Although Mr parry is hilarous...and unintentionally so.
