1Xtra presenter Letitia is the new host of the Sunday Surgery from April.

Emma B has presented the Surgery since 2000 will leave the station at the end of March.

Dr Mark Hamilton will continue to co-host the show and Letitia will continue to host her show every Saturday and Sunday (2pm-5pm) on 1Xtra.

Andy Parfitt, Controller Radio 1 said "I'm really happy to welcome Letitia to Radio 1 and she's bound to do a great job. The Surgery is a hugely important programme and is the front for all of our social action campaigns. Emma has been brilliant as the host for the last five years and I wish her all the best in her future career"

Letitia said "This is an amazing opportunity and I can't wait to get started. There isn't a show like the Sunday Surgery anywhere else on the radio and it's a real honour to be asked to front it and continue to take it forward"

Emma B said "I've had a wonderful time presenting the Sunday Surgery and am very proud of what we have achieved. I now feel ready to move on to work on new and exciting TV projects but I will be keeping my toes in the radio water with my Top Of The Pops World Service show and regular depping on 6 Music."

Gutted - I really like Emma B and think she's going to be an extremely hard act to follow.

The news doesn't really come as a surprise to me though; Emma's profile on Radio 1 has diminshed dramatically over the last couple of years. I remember the days when practically every daytime slot (Moyles, Mark & Lard) was filled by her.

Well, I guess it's another reason to listen to 6 Music...

I found her very boring when she used to replace Moyles in the afternoons.

She used to have a regular slot on a a Saturday afternoon after Moyles. There was a couple of times when she was ill and Moyles ended up doing 5 hour "marathons".

Bar Mark and Lard and Vicky Marsden, the DJs that have left have all been sh*t, e.g Theakston, Sarah HB, KC etc. But the ones coming in I think are much better - Colin and Edith, JK and Joel, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac etc.

The point is, Emma B used to be regular daytime cover - but before she left was fourth or fifth choice... behind even Spoony. Says it all really.

When you compare her to Spoony (who I'm enduring now) you realise just how good she was...

As for Theakston, I never really paid attention to him. He's over at Heart doing the breakfast show now anyway, isn't he?
