it is hard to judge an album on its own merits ignoring what the band has done in the past

i think thats only true if you like their old stuff. Some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers older albums are dire.

I read an article in the Independant that completely slated the new album, but I completely disregarded it because it was obvious the writer never liked Oasis in the first place.

I think Be Here Now is possibly the best Oasis album
Whats The Story Morning Glory is too common as everyone likes that.

Be Here Now is poor. Better than Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants though. Definitely Maybe is still their best album by far...

Oh and Sidla, take no notice of anything Paul Morley says. Hes a w*nker. Q, Modjo and The Observer Music Monthly have all given the new album a good write up, so I'm very hopeful.. although having said that it wouldnt surprise me if the Coldplay album is better.
