I find its best to start off with a nice, or toleratable kinda, then go to the stuff that tastes bad once you've had a good few, then you dont notice.

personally I'd prefer to be awkward and shy and have people like me for who i am rather than one of those who gets hammered at every social occasion. Plus I don't like it when people get drunk.
