I think Catherine Tate is something a bit different from the other sketch shows, it's very entertaining telly.

I do agree that decent sitcoms are few and far between - and there hasn't been a new one for a good few years.

Peep Show is a pretty decent newish sitcom IMO

How exactly is Catherine Tate different from all other sketch shows then? I agree in parts it's entertaining, but a lot more of it sucks than makes me laugh.

There are plenty of ideas out there for sitcoms, but breaking the TV execs is nearly impossible, despite their being more channels.

My girlfriends brother is a well respected stand up comedian and also wrote for, amongst others, Smack the Pony.
He spends a lot of time trying to convince execs, going to auditions, and even making pilots, to no avail.

They're 'safer' showing repeats, and bringing back shows that should remain dead and buried!
