(Possibly) interesting side note to this thread, the company that has produced the current world cup mascot toys has gone into receivership and is asking the german government to bail it out.

Munroe - Avatar too big.

It's weird because I remember Footix, it seemed to be everywhere at the time of France '98. That is the first time I've seen this years mascot, and the 2002 mascot come to that.

Not so much silly as lack of advertising, people assume that everyone will want world cup merchandise.

Unfortunately the most talked about thing during this world cup has been the quality of refereeing. In my eyes that makes for a bad world cup, people should be talking about the quality of the matches and the shocking upsets and moaning endlesly that England aren't playing as well as the tabloids would have us believe they could before the world cup.
