GAME RULES
Welcome to the official 2006 McDonald's ® / FIFA World Cup™ Fantasy game, a fun-packed game that gives you the chance to play team manager at this year's FIFA World Cup. Our Fantasy Game is free to play, once you have registered. Test your tactical skills by selecting a team comprising some of the world's top players and pit your wits against the teams picked by your friends, work colleagues or leading celebrities. You have the option to play against other users or create a league of your own with your friends then sit back and watch how your fantasy team performs as the tournament unfolds in Germany.
Assembling your own fantasy team could not be easier. Each user may select a squad of up to 23 players. Bear in mind that there is a limit to picking a maximum of three players from each individual nation, in other words; only three players can be selected from Brazil, Italy, France…and so on.
Fantasy game is divided into five parts: the Group Stage games, Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the Final.
Group stage - 9 June to 23 June
Round of 16 - 24 June to 27 June
Quarter-finals - 30 June to 1 July
Semi-finals - 4 July to 5 July
Final - 9 July
The better your players perform on the pitch in Germany, the more points you attain. Points will be awarded for: goals scored, assists, saves, penalty saves and tackles. But points will be lost for missed penalties, bookings and goals conceded. The aim is to accumulate as many points as possible until the final whistle is blown on 9 July.
And, while you're concentrating on what's happening on the pitch, we do all the hard work of gathering statistics and computing point totals and standings.
Users can join FIFA World Cup Fantasy Game at any point from the opening day on 18 May until the day of the Final on 9 July. But be warned - joining late will give you less chance to accumulate as many points as those that joined at the start of the tournament as points will be awarded only from the date of enrollment.
During registration, you can also request reminders for transfer deadlines that will be sent to you via e-mail by simply submitting your e-mail address.
To mastermind the best possible results, think carefully before selecting your team. Choose proven goal scorers, solid defenders and creative midfielders to build an effective line-up that brings the points rolling in thick and fast.
Fantasy Users will select and manage a team of footballers representing the various on-field positions; Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder and Forward. In addition to selecting a starting team of 11, each Game Player may select 12 substitutes to complete a roster of 23 footballers.
Who you pick and when you decide to field them will determine your progress in the Fantasy game.
You may even wish to consult the McDonald's Exclusive Content page to view the most popular and least popular players according to the choices made by your rivals. Unlock McDonald's exclusive content to glean exclusive strategic information such as which players are popular with other users yet are not performing on the pitch ?this will help you make the best team selection.
You can select up to three players from any one team at Germany 2006.
*Transfers made after the group stage are not affected by this rule.
Game Users will have to decide which combination of 11 footballers to play from their 23-man squad to maximize their score each day of the tournament. To allow for the use 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 formations, Game Users will select the following starting positions for each Match day:
1 Goalkeeper
3 Defenders
3 Midfielders
2 Forwards
plus
1 Forward + 1 Midfielder; or
1 Forward + 1 Defender; or
2 Midfielders; or
1 Midfielder + 1 Defender
IMPORTANT:
1. Only one Team can be submitted per Game Player.
2. Players can only play in their designated position. For example, a defender cannot be used as a forward.
3. After the group stage all players will select a new squad from a revised player list. Shrewd tactical switches could determine how your team performs in each match so think carefully about who you want to drop in and out of the side. Game Users will be able to change the line-up multiple times on a given match day. There will be no limit on how many times the line-up can be altered daily. However you will not be able to make further changes once the matches where your team players are involved have kicked off. Therefore, any player whose match has already started that day can NOT be brought into the line-up.
Game Users are free to set up line-ups for future matches if they desire to do so.
Just like in real-life football, every Fantasy team requires a leader on the field and you can double a player's points tally by selecting intelligently.
Game Users must elect one member of his team to be team captain or McDonald's Captain. This player will score double the number of points he would normally have been awarded during the game. But beware - negative results are also multiplied by two.
The McDonald's Captain can be changed for each match day. If the captain does not play then the bonus will be lost. Another player will not take over the captaincy in his place. A player whose match has already started that day can NOT be designated as captain.
If a key squad member falls injured during the tournament, or you simply feel like replenishing your current crop of players, you will have the option to sign new players during the tournament as long as player transfer limit has not been exceeded.
Two new footballers can be selected before the end of Group stage matches, and two additional new footballers before the start of the quarter-finals.
To add to the maximum number of two transfers, users can unlock an extra, third transfer by simply clicking on the appropriate link that can be found in the Fantasy Reminder e-mail, or by clicking on the Ronald McDonald bicycle-kick icon that will appear on the site periodically throughout the tournament.
Only one additional transfer can be unlocked per stages 1-4 (except the final match). The transfers you make during the tournament can make your squad roster more flexible so that you can reap even more points.
