Just remember there are some pretty damn big hills between Manchester and a load of the places been listed on here. Its a good hour and a bit to Leeds (even more to York) from Manchester - as for Edinburgh!!!! (can't remember who said that now) that is pushing it!

Then again - just staying west of the pennines might get a bit dull. Take it you are driving? If so factor in time coming over the M62 at that time of the year, Crap road in the snow and fog.

Just remembered you said you were flying into Manchester! Leeds on the train might not be too bad, never tried it. Sheffied will be a laugh though

When I went to Chicago (which was in January) the temperature was about the same as UK, except here it was wetter.

i've been to chicago in the summer a few times. the fake-mr is from chicagoland, so i'm spending my first holiday with his family. i have some wellies which i like to wear, but traveling with them sucks. so is walking long distances.
