This board wasn't around at the time, we were using a different piece of software.

Here are a few threads from the old board archives at the time surrounding September 11th.

Heard an unofficial announcement that Radio 1 will be music for the rest of today unless something else major happens (eg. white house) where radio 4 will take over the broadcasting on r1 freq.

can anyone confirm

g

I know moyles isn't going to do any jokes or anything but this all very serious and is good to see that Moyles is doing is show like this...

David

"Fecking hell. I'm at a friends house so I'm not listening to Moyles atm, but I'm recording. It's been said before - but this is like something out of a film. I can't really believe it."

I agree. I expect they don't really feel like doing a usual show. I know I don't feel like posting any normal light - hearted messages.

Bloody hell!! :-/ This is the most sophisticated terroist attack i've ever seen. America is in chaos! Im glad Moyles saw it would be wrong to do the regular show.

"Its really kinda shocking, they reckon up to 25,000 people could be dead in the world trade centre alone. It's good to hear that Moyles and Mark and Lard can actually "change their tone" and do serious shows."

"This is just a fairy tale...

BBC are still reporting 4 missing planes, and bombs are being found across NY. London is on a high security risk. This is just so unbelieveable.

Well done to Moyles, although he didn't have a choice of what show to do, he did very well.

"

"25,000? that's horrible. who the hell would be stupid enough and mean enough to do something like that? the prats :( "

my mate got home early and has just been telling me he was watching the news as it all unfolded this afternoon. all i can think of saying is "this is mad" and similarly think it's like something out of a film. don't think i'll be posting much today either hells angel. see you guys tommorow. good to see moyles and mark & lard handling it professionally and well.

ironic that it should be a tragedy that finally reveals to us what moyles' show would be like in the event of a tragedy.

"I think I would of rather have lived in ignorance, though he did do very well."

The whole internet seems to be slow....

David

"I don't really want to get into the knitty-gritty here, but the Baza and Dr are right - something out of a film - sophisticated terrorist attack.

There are going to be some conspiracy theories out of all this for sure but - one thing for sure if that USA have stopped these kinda attack many times before. Be it through the intelligence sector or even the last-minute. How did they not see this one coming?

Blackbox recorders will be interesting finding."

The Second crash in manhattan was the most important footage ive ever seen its gonna live with me forever.

"i've been sat watching the news since i got home. the videos i've seen over, and over. yes, they're stuck in my mind too. i've been to the twin towers, they really were massive and indeed did define the skyline of new york. despite the sombre tone, welcome back everlast. seems a long time since you've been here. "

Thank you Monkey

"It is really sad, I can't believe. I'm trying to get in contact with the US at the moment as my girlfriend who is staying with me at the moment is american and her parent are over ther. All the phone lines are jammed. oh well keep trying. This is a tragedy and I hope they catch who is responsible. The latest I have heard on the death toll is that it will reach 50,000 in New York alone. It scares me to think I was standing next to the pentagon less than a month ago and now 800 people have been killed inside! What has shocked me is the Palestinian people that are celebrating. Death is never a course for celebration"

"yeah Monkey i was there in 1994 too. We went by foot and on tour-bus, where the tour-guide shown us the location where the bomb was placed by 'yousef' first time round. This will defintely test Bush amongst all other things as well."

I don't really want to think of how this happened and who did it. My thoughts are with the victims of this attack.

It's... you can't explain it.

I think one of the e-mails Radcliffe read out this afternoon describes the situation and the feelings best; "What can you say when there's nothing to say?"

"I never heard Mark and Lard today but thats such a true point, shock and disbelive is not enough to describe whats happened. It's a dark day for the world"

"that's right. but in respect to the arab's and palastenians celebrating. Remember the jubilation and joy in USA when we defeated the middle east (Guld War).

And Bin Ladan was himself trained by the CIA, who then funded him and many others to do 'their bit' in over-coming Russia."

"The thing that shocked me about that was the little kids running about celebrating. How can anyone, espesally so young, have such malice in them?"

"not that i'm an islamic fundamentalist or anything, but those pictures of people celebrating for all we know could be anything. if you watch closely they loop the same 5-10 secs of film over and over, and as a palestinian spokeswoman said, it was filmed as news first filtered through, before the true nature of the attacks became apparent. also, most of the palestinians were children who don't know any better.

if i heard news that the pentagon had been disabled, but not how, then i'd certainly chuckle. the irony is quite obvious. also, i'm sure communists everywhere whould celebrate the world trade centre being disabled before they realised what really happened.

basically, those pictures of jerusalem or wherever it is are complete bullsh*t."

"Tom - very good point - all this business between USA and these *suspected* terrorists is very complicated. We get the overall facts - there's much that goes on behind closed doors that we don't know or hear about, and will probably never get to know about."

I heard a rumour today that there was actually eight planes. Four we know what happened to but four others that were shoot down by America. Does anyone know anything about this?

I also heard that Baza and it is probably true and things do go on behind closed doors for all we know the US goverment may have known about these attacks earlier than suggested as the pitsburg plane was most likley shot down but that has not been confirmed.

???
Hmm...

"haven't seen any pictures of the pitsburg plane, though i dont particularly want to see much more. also, i heard on the news, about 2pm on said day, that there were two united airlines planes unaccounted for. this was before the pitsburg one went down though - i think. mind you in all the confusion it is likely that a few false reports may have came in. i too heard the other day about "the eight planes" thing. i'm dubious though not fully decided."

"I have suspicions that the US military shot the plane heading for 'Camp David' down. I don't think it crashed. The other two had been difficult to shoot-down as it would have caused the same, if not more damage to the city and residents of NY/Washington.

Though what is baffling is why the plane changed its course from heading to the Whitehouse, onto the Pentagon instead. ???

And furthur more, this could go on for ages but... i won't :) - Very unusual to see Pakistan support USA too."

I persume they changed corse from the whitehouse to the pentogon because the whitehouse has missle deffence and is heavily garded

seeing as this is the topic for all this. does anyone know what flight recorders have been recovered? if i recall correctly they've got the one from the pentagon and the one from pitsburg.

"Yea, i think youre right."

"Gordon - Now i think about it - it does seem logical that it was destined for the World Trade Centre rather than the Whitehouse. The plane was heading for Washington originally - and the hijackers took over and diverted the plane with precision timing - hence the "sophisticated, pre-meditated terrorism attacks".

My guess if that they went for the WTC instead of the Whitehouse anyway, purely for the fact that people from all walks of life work in that building. So it was an act of "terrorism against the WORLD" sorta thing. You know what i'm getting at right?"

"right every station going on sombre music makes any right minded person want to kill themselves. theres too much sadness in the world. what we need is someone to stop worrying and put a smile back on our faces. that man is moyles. mark n lard waited til 3 to stop their banter (when they end). switch on radio 2, theyre playing sinead o connor nothing compares to u. turn on local station, they are playing every breath you take by the police. theres enough depression, dont make it even worse."

"You've got a good point, but we need to be informed of these things. This is probably the most important day in most of our lives - and you expect Moyles to do some banter about Bob the builder and then say 'heres the news, its 3.30'? I'm listening to my recording of him right now, and it is strange - but he still maintains his crediblity. He couldn't have done a normal show, else he would be spoken to by management no doubt.

One thing thats strange is Radio 1 playing old mediocre hip-hop."

"one good thing, shuts up dave pearce"

i thought chris coped brillianty and the newsbeat team are doing great.

i thought chris coped brillianty and the newsbeat team are doing great.

"twice u said that, i cleaned out a hutch today, it was full of shite an all"

"youre wrong, its not the most important day of our lives. thatll be when we get married, folks passing away that sorta thing. america is thousands of miles away, so let them grieve on their own."

I have to agree with wannabe i think (as i've said b4) that both moyles and M+L handled the whole thing brilliantly in a professional way. Congrats to them is what i say.

maybe that was a little insensitive so i apologize if that was a little too near the knuckle but the stations are being too strict

I suppose life goes on.

"Bob, although I don't think the DJs had a choice what they did - how can a show such as Moyle's continue when over 50,000 people have died, 4 commerical aircraft hi-jacked, and most of America coming to a stand still.

Be realistic!"

50000 is an exaggeration

"Bob - a film was made last year called Pearl Harbour, based on the true story, in which 1,500 died. 10,000 were estimated to be working in each building, plus 5,000 visitors. Thats 35,000. Thats a bloody lot of people. It is both stultifyingly ignorant and disrespectful to those dead to distregard those people. This is a human tragedy, not an American one."

"remember that the buildings didn't collapse instantly .. there was over an hour to get out. Still bad though.

I've been up the World Trade Center .. it's a huge building, nothing to the scale it seemed on television."

I think he did the right thing

I real feel for those people

he did do it in a sensible and very respectful way...

and man what a f*cked up day.... wow!

"it was lazy, he couldve went somewhere with it"

"Must agree with Chris. You can't grasp the size of it on TV.

I was there exactly one month ago and you just can't imagined them not being there. When you are there you realise how many people are in that building. It's destroyed such a fantastic city, and has had a massive impact on the world.

========
Wirelist:

Suffice to say that what's been going on on the radio is irrelevent
considering what's happened, but it's worth mentioning:

Radio 1: Chris Moyles sounding very serious indeed doing updates in between
records, with Newsbeat every 15 minutes.
Radio City: Terrible bloke emphasising eveyrthing he says in the style of
Smashie and Nicie, as if he's enjoying what's happening. Disgrace.

Jon

"

"in relation to your opinions Mr Uglybob. America may be a few thousand miles away, but the implications of this act of terrorism will be felt across the world. Many people have lost their lives, the world economy shall be heavily effected and a long term conflict has been instigated which will directly involve many more nations including the United Kingdom. This is a historical tragedy which will greatly shape the the direction of foreign relations in the next five years at least.

"

You don't have to be American to know people who were involved. I lived there for 7 years.

so get on with it and stop bloody moaning then

I totally agree with ugly bob.

so what chris moyles is supposed to do comedy when a major incedent and a possible threat to the worlds safety just to please his fans??? NO! chris moyles and the BBC did the correct thing by playing records as comedy would have been totally wrong especially it was only just a hour after the destruction took place..what you have to think of is "does he risk his his radio 1 future teeling jokes possibly about something where poeple have been killed..or does he play records and just say nothing..chris moyles and radio 1 did the 100% correct thing yesterday

Stop moaning? Many people have lost their lives as a result of this henious act. Should this event be swept under mat in favour of tittle tattle on jordan and booze related stories.

This tragic historical landmark will effect the UK in many ways within the next few months.

100% agree with that.."think of others before your self" springs to my mind

"
"does he risk his his radio 1 future teeling jokes
possibly about something where poeple have been killed.

I think it was more about Moyles being shocked and stunned as a decent human than his career, but I see where your coming from.

Uglybob - I understand your point but would you feel like cracking jokes so soon after the biggest disater (and I pray there will be no more) were ever likely to see."

im not moaning. yes it was awful and all that but all this is depressing. no i dont want him to crack jokes about it but something a bit different maybe like a best of moyles interviews show or something instead to take our mind off things.

"Agreed. He wouldn't have needed the BBC telling him not to do the normal show. He didn't want to make jokes, and was as concerned as most people."

"The agreed was to Hells_Angel, I thought it had already posted it."

"Bob I think you should show some respect! It was the right thing to do, it just wouldnt of been right for Chris and the team to be laughing and Joking when all this is going on!"

its so dull

"i know. moyles not being on has brought me down even more. although rightly so it would be a little disrespectful doing the usual stuff. xfm have done the best (as i've been saying since all this stuff started) . breakfast host, who's wicked normally anyway, chatting quite in depth and playing good music - was just what was called for. though moyles' style is not like his so he's done pretty much as i'd have expected. "

" >:(

THINK BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING.........

Okay in reply to the chap who was saying something about 50,000 people dead.

Well if you think about.... we shall see if its just under or over the intended estimated 50,000 that my message board friend said when everything is cleared up and sorted out.

I agree with everyone in this message board. Would you play fast, unreal songs when two major cities are on fire?? I know the likes of Coldplay and the Moby Song have been playing none stop. Do you expect the nations' top radios to go back to normal when there are people dead and under 100's of tons of crap, that can not be in to my mind... Radio One isn't some local radio station wanting to be big, its a (dare I say this) FRONT LINE radio station and over 5 million people were listening to Moyles at that time or stuck to the TV. Its a big job to tell the nation what is going on, after a hour that its happened. I'm sure Mr Moyles was shocked as well.

By the looks of things, Saturdays show will not be remember as much as it would if this never happened. Come on Guys... What is more important your freedom?, your lifes? your country? your allies? I don't think Radio Comedy is on our want list and this moment in time.

Cheer up Guys, Radio Chris Moyles will get back to normal soon :)

Adam

"

i cant avoid it though. mass suicides will occur if this keeps on. id say comedy needs brought back.

"i know exactly what you mean, when i listen to the show i keep expecting him to tell a joke. however, i have been listening, and radio 1 have definitely NOT been playing just slow music, they've been playing their normal playlist so i don't know what everyone is on about.

bob's not being disrespectful at all, i think the question we should be asking is when do you think it will be back to normal. although the repurcusions of this will go on for ages, moyles' show can't stay like this that long. also do you think he will actually be able to fall straight back into his old character after being so frank this week?"

"I can't believe anyone would want to listen to 'Lard's classic cuts' or 'I fancy my boyfriend's brother' after they've seen people jumping out of windows 1000 feet in the air to their certain deaths.
And to think that Moyles was being low-key because Radio1 telled him to is ludicrous - he was quite obviously shocked and moved by this terrible occasion; as I hope any other decent person was.
I thought Moyles and Radcliffe have done really well over the last few days, and have shown that they are good broadcasters in there own right.
Also on Talksport; Richard Kaufman and Mike Parry were excellent - but James Whale was terrible; He started off his show sounding very uncaring, and then a few moronic callers started trying to connect this tragedy with all the 'illegal' immigrants in this country, and Whale was sort of agreeing with them, and then there was some ludicrous theories about Islamic extremeists smuggling in people to the UK with chemical weapons or some sh*t like that,I just switched off after that.
Tommy Boyd was equally disgusting the day after; he started off properly, but then when he started taking calls he did his usual weasel words and continued partaking in his usual 'game' of picking up a particular word a caller has said and then twisting it round. For God's sake this is no time for him to carry on with his usual outwitting of the callers; and it wasn't that they said anything particularily stupid,he just behaved like it was a normal phone-in - I'm totally disgusted, and I'll never listen to Whale or Boyd again.
I also find it rather ironic that Uglybob is so uncaring; considering he lives in one of the more f*cked up places on the planet: Northern Ireland.
One of his family could be murdered in a terrorist atrocity there any day.

"

"you think im uncaring, try watching question time again"

"M+L, i was waiting for the anti northern ireland jibes to start and i wasnt surprised to see you falling for it. where did i say i dont care. i do care but the media is painting a black mark over the whole world, we all have to move on and now is as good a time as any. "

"I hope this doesn't sound disrespecful but due to the fact I can't listen to M & L could anybody tell me how they handled the news when it first came in? And also how has Moyles been starting his shows, I assume not with the usual " Its -----, it's 3:00""

"hi i'm chris moyles. obviously we're not doing the usual show because of the events in america. i'll just be playing records and going to the news every fifteen minutes for updates."

"MESSAGE DELETED.

Tom,

I wasn't taking the piss.

Leave me alone..... ???

Adam"

"My heart goes out to everyone who was killed and everyone who knew someone that was killed in this terrible tragedy from which, I think, New York will never recover. It sickens me that someone would intentinally plan to kill 1000's of people for some petty squabble with America. I pray I will never see another great tragedy such as this one. In the event of nuclear war may God have mercy on our souls."

"Firstly my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those who have been lost! I was watching sky news before and in the rubble they had found a little childrens teddy with The World Trade Centre wrote on it, a little child had obviously been on a day out. Since Tuesday this has been the first thing that has actually made me cry and I just dont know how anyone could even think of doing such a thing!

Charmaine x"

" :( >:( :-/

NOW, NOW. Please don't say that. This will never go to Nuclear War...

I know George Bush is mean... but he'd never do that, WOULD HE?

This is something that can not be solved with Nukes...

I think everyone is crying.... this will shock everyone for years to come :(

Adam

I couldn't believe it when I first heard the news it's hardly something that you think would ever happen. It's like something that happens in films your never think that such things would happen in real life. It such a terrible event thats happened and My heart goes out to the poor victims who are involved in the disaster. Just getting on with their own lives and this goes and happen. It makes your think really about how you can never tell whats going to happen from oneday to another.
Once again I wish that all the people that have been invloved In this event manage to get on with their lives peacfully and to deal with what ever sad loss they may have. :(

"i don't think this is a very good idea, for a start it's pointless, secondly because of where we are i cannot take a single one of these messages seriously, particularly adam's, i get a very strong feeling that he is taking the piss for some reason."

'God bless the USA'?! You sound like you're pledging the oath ..

God bless the many people from around the world who have suffered loss may be more appropriate?

If you want to post somewhere visit http://www.wtcmemorial.com/

"Chris, I think your avatar is a little inappropriate :D"

It's supposed to be appropriate - it's a photo I took.

Hmmm?

Lets all try calming down eh?

A-Lynch is a newbie - but ih he carries on like this - he wont be a_anybody for much longer

"yes spanner. big capital letters. small brain. please dont get to tangled up with what your saying adam, keep calm man. there's a line between being over melodramatic and emotional, and seemingly not caring - try and keep in the middle. especially when you're just leaving messages on a message board, as this medium makes it easy for people to seem more ignorant or stupid than they perhaps are."

"basically i'm not going to fly off the handle, i realise this was a misunderstanding and i respect you for deleting the message.

my opinion is that this is really not the place for a book of condolence. it's time to get back to normal, other threads about different topics are welcome, and are NOT sick

why do you think that no one has replied to your sick message???

believe me i care a lot about what happened, and i wouldn't take the piss. but getting over-emotional doesn't do help anybody. what happened in america is not even close to any of the worst atrocities that have happened in the world, it's just that it occured in a western country which is very close (not in the geographical sense) to our own."[/quote]
Dear Everyone.

I am sorry for writing a little over the top and possible taking you on topics that aren't for me.

I know I am new.

Please forgive me? :)

Urrm. Well Said Tom!! I agree and what is about to happen will not help anyone or anything... Can't fight the problem with a wrong ???

Adam!"

"Yewah, my sympathy to the deaths of 1.35 million iraqi childrn us sanctions have been respnsible for too. "

"It pains me to say it- but the Tom Murphy is right on this one. When diana died it was unnecessary grief which was over the country. Noel Gallagher was berated at the time for saying that the grief was for "fat housewifes in the home counties". He was spot on. If we are not careful we WILL lose objectivity on the matter. 1000's are dead- true, but do we need to add to this total by encouraging further attacks. A war on terrorism is one you cannot win. If you take out Osama bin Laden, Saddam or Gaddafi- you will only marytrise them and cause them to grow.
However let it be said that the media's role in whipping up a patriotic frenzy against these terrorists is bringing about a holy war. Instead of trying to bring about the destruction of the world, which will inadveratley happen if things continue in the course that they are (Vietnam springs to mind), wouldn't it be nice to find out the motives behind the attacak before the Americans, jump in before the water is full.....

Just a thought .......
Like most people sympathies to the masses, but please go sign the one on Yahoo or something... This is not the place

i cant believe its been a year, i think every1 will remember wot they were doing on september the 11th.
I've been to america twice, once before september the 11th and also after.
i went during july 4th, which is a big holiday for them and i spoke to a few americans that thought something mite happen, but i was out till 4 in the mornin and they seemed to be havin a good time, its nice to see that they have moved on but still have a place in their hearts for the people that died

Politics aside,I'm sure most of us
have today been sparing a thought
for the victims of this horrendous event
and its subsequent consequences
Worldwide.I remember having the TV on
as events unfolded and,like most,believed
I was watching some Bruce Willis feature.
It was one of the few times in my life
where humour could play no part, and
that was scary.
It has never been clear whether the
tragic symbolism of the '9/11' date, with
its association with both the twin towers
and the US emergency call number, was
deliberate of pure coincidence. If it was
the former then the perpretrator's twisted
perception belies evil and callousness
beyond comprehension.

I agree, humour could play no part at the time...
But after a while the jokes started coming out,
as with any tragedy (Diana comes to mind.)
I think humour is a way of dealing with
something, it helps you through.
