My research also threw up another theory, that being that the stig is no longer always the same person.

This I find believable.

Wasn't Perry McCarthy the black stig for Series 1 and 2 of the new Top Gear. It changed to the current stig in series 3 i think

Did you know that "The "Stig" was Jeremy Clarkson's nick-name at school, which is where the name came from.....apparantly they originally wanted to call the "mystery driver" the gimp, but didn't think it was family friendly.
