Does anyone know of a program that I can obtain which would split a large .mp3 file (basically a whole show) into manageable chunks (i.e. half hour segments I can bung on a cd for the car)?

I know you can get things that split files for downloading then you can recombine them, but i'm after something that would split it into an individual .mp3 file.

Any ideas would be appreciated... ?

I think Audacity does that: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

hmmm, that looks more like a sound editing package. I think I already have something similar which I have used before, but it takes aaaaaages.

Twas really wondering if there was a quicker way of doing it? I dunno really where to start looking for it though.

Cheers tho Topher.

There are better tools for the job, but you'd either need linux (or other *nix OS) or a Cygwin environment setup under windows. If you have either of them, the software package is called mpgtx (mpeg toolbox) and allows you to cut mp3's directly into chunks based on time or size; the whole process takes a few minutes, which is much faster than using a GUI mp3 editor.

OK, I don't have linux and I doubt I have a "Cygwin environment setup under windows". What is that?

Cygwin is essentially linux that has been compiled to run directly on top of Windows. As for mpgtx, I've just noticed that they have a Windows port pre-compiled:-

http://mpgtx.sourceforge.net

You should be able to download it from there and use it to split up your mp3.

I don't know what gout is but apparantly drinking coffee means I will never get it.

Are you sure? Isn't coffee one of the things that you should avoid if you have gouty tendencies? I vaguely remember thinking once that I would never get gout because I hate coffee and I hate wine, and I had just read that they are bad in a gouty sense. Or maybe it was just the wine......I'm definitely going sealion.

Most off topic comment ever? Why are you worried about gout and is it the caffeine that prevents it or is de-caff ok too? xx

My comment was on topic. Someone said if you dont know what it is your probably don't have it. I was illustrating a potential conflict with that statement by using gout as an example.
