Well maybe it's been done for the smokers that don't make sure they are well away from other people. Also, what happens if the platform is full and it's impossible to smoke away from other people.
You'll just have to go outside the grounds of the station; if a train is late, it'll tell you how late it's going to be on the monitor so you haven't got to worry about missing it.
Yup. Plus S4B - while you may be thinking of other people, not all folks would be as considerate. Plus, there would be an argument that the smoking area you suggest would need to be maintained so there could be a situation where a cleaner would have to go in to clean the area while others are smoking in it. From what I can gather, thats exactly what the smoking ban is trying to prevent.
The ban came in up here last year and everyone got all worked up about it right up until the day it happened. Then it was all forgotten about. I find it very strange these days when I go into a pub in Engerland and its still smokey. It wont be as bad as everyone seems to think its going to be.
