What makes you laugh? Other than R1, what would do it for you? Do you, for example, have a favourite comedien? Or a favourite funny show?

I like Jack Dee, for example! Apart from him, I like simple stuff, like people falling over (even if it's myself!).

Including Jack Dees? Or is that his own misery?

Yeah but when you laugh at him you are laughing at his misery.

He's not really miserable... he just APPEARS to be so.

I'm glad you pointed that out. Can you tell me is the Human Torch actually a Human Torch?

Good point well made.

Eddie Izzard makes me laugh. Mr Y is a big fan of stand-up and drags me to the Comedy Store and other places from time to time, but on the whole I find it all a bit samey, apart from Eddie of course. I like quite a few sit-coms, I loved Coupling. Unfashionable though it might be, I also love Friends - and even more unfashionable, I quite liked Joey too.

Televised competitions of any sort always make me laugh for some reason. Maybe because i'm so uncompetitive that i just can't understand that mindset. Big Brothers probably the exception, which is just tedious.

Have you watched 'The Riches' with Eddie Izzard? His is, quite simply, brilliant in it. If you haven't seen it, then it'll probably be on either Channels 4, 5 or Sky One later this year. Well worth watching in my opinion, it's not a comedy (although there are some funny moments), but it's a terrific show.

I must admit that I liked Coupling, although it went downhill after Jeff left, despite Oliver being quite a good character. Oh, and 'Friends' was utter tosh.

I love 'Buzzcocks', Bill bailey makes me laugh more than anyone, seeing him on stage later this year.

I used to love 'Who's line is it anyway, the british one, not the american one with Drew Carey - can't stand that bloke, so stuck up his own arse... Its like 'And the winner gets to do a sketch with me'... and when he does he just isn't funny at all.

Yes, yes you are. And because you are seeing him, me and twelve of my mates are also off to see him.

Cause and effect.

I am a huge Seinfeld and Frasier fan, also early Friends (seasons 1-3 only really), also Black Books and Green Wing, and I love Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Ross Noble and Dylan Moran. Tons of other stuff too really, most of what I buy on dvd is either sitcoms or stand-up comedy.

I Love Black books, and Spaced too.
Spaced is Massively under-rated

Spaced is/was not a 'simple' laugh, it was very complex and layered. Actually, I got the collectors edition DVD of that last week, some (if not all) of the commentaries on that are hilarious.

I saw some repeats of Third Rock from the Sun the other day - I had forgotten how brilliant that was.

Yea, very much so. Alot of it was reference comedy too. It didn't rely on Slapstick or Kn0b Gags.

Incidently I love Kn0b gags, but my Girlfriend refuses to wear them...

I could stand watching Joey where I couldn't with Friends itself. The same way I find Frasier more watchable than Cheers.

Indeed. I cant watch John Lithgow's performance as the bad guy in Cliffhanger now without expecting him to say "But IM the High Commander"

You make me laugh sometimes with your pedanticness. :-)
