Elvis
Reef
Ash
Westlife
U2
Rolling Stones
even Rick Astley

All these compilations are out or are due for release. Is it just a cash in or is it a chance to get all their hits on one cd without having to buy 3 albums.

Coming Soon
The Best Of Hear'Say - I wouldnt put it past them, 4 different versions of Pure & Simple probably. You know Robson & Jerome brought out 2 albums then they just spliced the two together and made a best of the next year. The culprit - a unknown fella called Simon Cowell.
Not that im influencing your decision.

It really depends on who it is. You don't always want to go out and buy loads of albums just to get a few songs spread out over different albums. With a greatest hits you have a selection of good ones put all together on one handy CD.

I was going to say crap but.......Pulp are going to be brining out one of these albums, and i know that i will go out and get it,just liek i did with the Ash one. But being a big pulp fan i have to get there album just to have them all now.

I think both the U2 greatest hits is a good idea of keeping track of how they have changed.
Queen Greatest hits 1 & 2 were great well worth it, but the 3rd one was just a cash in.

depends. if they have loads of albums its alright because people will want the best of with songs from each without buyin 5 albums but if they only have 3 i think its a bit soon.

i hate it when relatives of dead artists authorize loads of different compilations to companies so they can cash in and theres about 4 different best of...

I agree with every word of that.

With bands like Westlife, it's a bit of a con anyway 'cos their best known songs aren't even their's, they were done years before.

I used to have UB40 best of 1 and 2 and now there is a Best of Best of or something like that

Same with Beautiful South

brought out a best of in 1994
then brought one out last year to cover the last 7 years... but ran out after about 8 tracks so put the majority of the first album on it.

And on the other hand you get bands like Green Day. International Superhits is a really, really fun compilation. Ash's best-of is said to be very good too. - jc

If it's got never before heard material then how the hell can they call it 'greatest hits'?

All hail the dum ass! Havn't you seen other Artists do this before. Take U2 the release "Sweetist thing" on there greatest hits album, only album that song came on.
Reef are bringing out Greatest Hits album and as they said on Moyles on Friday it has 5 new songs!
The Corrs greatest hits had 2 never before released songs.
The new U2 greatest hits will be having 2 new songs on it.

I rest my case, it's been done before. If you have a problem with the fact it shouldn't be called a greatest hits album then why not taking it up with the record companies mate!

You're the dumb ass. If artists do this they never call it greatest hits, they call it something like 'the best of'. How can they call it greatest hits if half the songs have never been hits in the first place.

Greatest Hits CDs can be good, but often your favourite songs from some bands will be ones that were on albums but weren't released as singles, so won't be included on such a CD

a classic best of album that i'm sure many many people own....bon jovi crossroads...many people won't have a lot of the albums pre crossroads or even be aware crossroads was a best of album!..but its a damned fine album and introduced a lot of people to the music! classic buy......

I do have a problem with people trying to cash in with greatest hits and they seem to be becoming more frequent at the moment.

But when it comes down to it..you don't have to buy it...... 8O
