I'll be having to shine a torch at my monitor soon, I do sometimes switch it off when I'm away from it. Google seem to lead the way with everything.

I don't think Google are behind this. I'm fairly certain that the figures quoted are for CRT monitors, which are becoming rarer now-a-days and a black screen barely saves any power on an LCD monitor (note black, not off), and plasma monitors aren't that common for PC's.

I've just been reading up on LCD monitors, and black actually takes more power to display, not less. So, this 'Blackle' would actually cause more power to be used.
