Yep, you're right, I did poison them, I used a fishy smelling poison which is why the cat was attracted to it. It was a fish smelling poison simply so I could solve the crime myself by saying 'Hmm, there's something fishy going on here...', but unfortunately the damn cat picked up on the scent and has now made what would have been a great pun into a facetious story about himself.
