Fame Academy is up against Emmerdale on Tuesday & Thursday and 8 million watch it at least (face it Moyles isnt the big competition). The thing about Big Brother was its limited competition at 10pm at night. For 18-34 who is going to be watching the News At Ten.
It's not about whether it's a phenomenom or not. Radio 1 is targeted at 15-24's. Big Brother is clearly big for 15-24's and it was a very easy thing to start doing. -BBC- Radio 1 want us to replicate the format of our coverage of Big brother because it's an equally easy way to cover BBC's version of it's 15-24 (+) programme.
So even if Fame Academy wasn't on the BBC we'd probably do it. We'd do it to Popstars if there was an easy way of doing a daily update on it. We agreed on Fame academy because we can do SO much more than Big brother as we'll have complete 100% access to every aspect of it as it's in-house. why wouldn't we do this.
plus, and Chris agrees with this, it's great to be the official place for updated news on Fame Academy as it's going to get very big with the might of BBC Choice, BBC1, BBCi on the net and Radio 1 all trailing it and trailing that you can get more info on the programme by tuning into Moyles. This has potential to bring a new audience in for Moyles. Big brother could not have done that.
