Rational thought is one of our greatest features, I'd say it needs to be used as much as possible in today's world - nothing is ever simple so it would be unfair to simply do the first thing that comes into your head. Of course emotions come into play but everything should be taken into consideration.

Stop telling people what they should or shouldnt be doing! If people want to donate to Sport Relief then they will. I've already donated by texting the umber the other day. I've done my bit. Just because you are training to run 6 miles and getting god knows how much for it in sponsorship, doesnt mean all of us should be donating the same amount as you! People can only donate what their budget allows, and, at the moment, my budget only allows me that one text. Especially considering that text ended up meaning i couldnt make a very important phone call when i wasnt at home which was urgent.

I think it's sad that we even need charities. For example, I read a couple of days about the Real ID program that's being implemented in America. The ID's will be traceable, they allow you to enter government buildings and to go abroad. The main part of that sentence being "the ID's will be traceable". So for the government to trace people, they're implementing a whole new system of ID. And the cost for this? 82 billion dollars. I just find it ridiculous that 82 billion dollars is going towards tracing people instead of helping them. And that's when it makes me realise that charities shouldn't even be needed.

I find it great that charities are around, as while we live under this type of "ruling", as such, they will be needed. Yet there should be no reason for them when 82 billion dollars is being spent on bullshit like Real ID.

Isn't America already giving something along the lines of a quarter of a trillion dollars a year already? This was the point I was making earlier - just how much are people expected to give?

I think you misunderstood the point I was making. I was making the point that 82 billion dollars are being spent on something that isn't needed. If that money, and other pointlessly spent money, was put to proper use then there would be no need for charities. And I hardly see a government as "the people". The American government aren't representive of the American people or what they give to charity.

In fact, I pretty much agree with a lot of the points you were making. It's a natural thing to put yourself first, and if you don't feel like donating the money you've earned then you shouldn't be obliged to. I'm saying that there should really be no need for us to donate money, due to the amount of wealth in the world.

That's a subjective opinion though - i'm pretty sure the Government have their own reasons to believe that it is, in fact, needed.

Ok, that's it. I just listened to the mile from Wembly - sat in my car in the car park and was late to work because of it. The whole team seemed so excited all morning, the build up was brilliant - and again, superb radio, I really loved it. Chris did really well, running outside is really difficult at first when you are used to a treadmill, it's a very different experience, and I thought he might struggle, but he did really well. And Vernon - did he actually run, because he didn't get even remotely out of breath! Freak.

I have absolutely loved the coverage of Chappers and Dave this week, and wish I could listen to it all as it happens - but the upshot is that you win Viv! I stand by everything I have said about charity, donations, and Sport Relief, but I have enjoyed this week's radio so much the only appropriate response seemed to be to go to the website and donate. So I did.
