I agree with Topher that if all drugs were legalised then having control over it would reduce crime dramatically.

Is that in the same way that if stealing was legalised then it too would reduce crime dramatically?

Agreed. Drugs are just plain assinine I think. Why on earth would you want to go down this particular path...

Everyone thinks differently Viv. Someone's idea of a fantastic night would be to stay in and watch tv with the cat on their lap, another would be to go out, pop pills and get completely Shitfaced. You may not understand why people would want to do this, but they do. People enjoy it. Its the way some people think.

So a fantastic time is playing around with daft drugs, not knowing what you are doing, potentially causing damage to your brain for the future, potentially harming other people? Personally, the worst I have done is BIG aspros, and Penicillin... Me, I'll just go to the cinema for a good time. :-)

No. If drugs are legalised, there's no need for dealers because people would get their drugs from more controlled, legal sources. No drug dealers means no nasty bastards trying to push their latest line on some poor addict, who then has to turn to crime to fund their habit.

As I have stated above though, people who take them wind up not knowing what they are doing, thus whether they have received them from a drug dealer, or otherwise, they may still commit crimes, and harm themselves and others. Say NO to drugs.

Although I have no data presentable for either side of this, I suspect that the people that commit crimes when high are in the minority, and are almost certainly a far smaller group than those who commit crimes while not high (or otherwise out of their head).

I actually have mixed thoughts on this. On the one hand, I have a strong opinion that drugs are bad (mmkay), and as such would never take any for recreational use, but on the other hand I see a persons body as there's to do as they wish with - if they want to get stoned, then that should be there choice. As long as it's not affecting other people (or, at least, people that don't want to be affected by it) then they shouldn't be stopped - regulated, maybe, but not stopped.

I disagree, Console. It's a person's body to do as they wish with, absolutely. However, if they are, for example, taking bad drugs, and something goes drastically wrong, other people are the ones who have to pick up the pieces, or families are left devasted if their son/daughter winds up dead. Something to think about, no?

Sorry to D.P., but there are things such as "natural highs" that come from exercise. Why does anyone need drugs. Swimming = my drug.

That would be were the regulation comes in. Also, if it was made legal, then there'd be a lot more information and education around the administration/taking of recreational drugs, so people would be far more aware of the dangers and problems and how to avoid and solve them.

I tried swimming as my drug, did it competitively for 6 years. It gets very tiresome. Weed > swimming. Sorry, Viv.

Well, a lot of people are lazy, and I somewhat doubt that the 'high' that occurs during exercise is anything like the 'high' obtained from taking drugs.

Again, I disagree.. bad drugs would still slip through the net, because people just sell the stuff at cheaper prices. And there would always be the dafties who would buy. I wish this Country would just plain get a lot tougher..... If I was PM, all drugs would be banned, and no arguments.

Well, personally I have never experienced anything, and never will, so I can't speak on that. I understand though that these great highs are also followed by terrible lows. No thank you.

Yes, but it should be far less that what slips through now. People that had a bad batch of drugs wouldn't be as apprehensive to seek medical attention over drug-related problems if they were legalised.

If I was PM, all drugs would be banned, and no arguments.

Yeah, I'm sure that'd make a big difference to them just being made illegal, like they are now.

Also, what about their medicinal uses? What about the drugs that are medicines that can also be used to get high off of? Would they be banned too?

There are 'lows' from exercising too, though. Muscle and joint pain, tiredness - they may not be that 'low', but the high isn't that 'high' either.

Even though it's a typical stoner argument, alcohol is more potent and dangerous a drug than marijuana. That and tobacco are both more addictive.

I'd ban everything: alcohol, cigs., etc.!! Also, coffee... I've just been told to come down from 15 cups of coffee per day, to 3 or 4. Just shows how this stuff is affecting your system. I already feel a little better.

It's not "Dictatorship"! It's in the interest of people's health and wellbeing. And, would cut costs on the NHS. :-)
