The economy in Iceland was being funded by the Russians, who recently refused a £3 billion payout. The markets were unsure how the icelandic banks were able to perform so well, and this was felt to be a clear indicator of how and why this market has grown.

I invested in Icesave, the rate was about 0.5% more than anyone else, and it was internet based and income was paid out every month. To me that did not seem like a high return and a high risk, it seemed sensible. Any country that had Magnus Magnuson as a King must be serious and proper I thought. Still how wrong can you be.
