I was born in Whipps Cross so I'm not sure what that qualifies me as! Lived in Leytonstone for a year before moving to Buckhurst Hill and have grandparents from Bethnal Green so I have strong East London influence - great!!

The pre-conception I usually have of posh people - and I readily admit that it's not necessarily true, it's just something I struggle to get out of my head - is that they're mainly haughty, hoity, stick it up your toity, high and mighty, tight nosed, toffee arsed, sun dried tomato eating lah-de-dah-dy lah-de-daas (to use the words of an excellent Ben Elton character.)

I'm not connecting you with this, but I'm getting a bit sick of all the inverse-snobbery we have in the UK. Knowing pretty much an equal amount of Brookes and Oxford students, I hear so much more from Brookes students about how they dislike the Oxford lot rather than the reverse. Other people have noticed the same thing.
It's a case of the 'victims' becoming the very thing they claim to hate - someone who bases judgement on class or position rather than personality.

Yup, but it's the opposite in Oxford. There's much more animosity towards the Oxford students from Brookes students than the reverse. It's a mixture of reverse snobbery and jealousy I think.

The youngest daughter of the poshest (and very rich) family I know went to Oxford Brookes. She loved it. And the Brookes prospectus has just been delivered here for Miss Yudster to have a look at......

I'd certainly recommend it. Oxford is such a great place to be a student in, and if you get bored of Oxford there is a great 24/7 bus service to London you can just hop on.

Also, the main campus is in the process of building new facilities, which look very good. It's definitely a good up-and coming university.

And for the record, Trent students hated being confused with the snobby lot as well. My missus went to Nottingham Uni, had to keep it secret from everyone I knew.

To be a * you have to be born within the sound of Bow Bells (apparently) so I think your classed as an East Londoner instead.

Tell her not to go to either! Leicester is a scary place. Mind you they do have a fantastic rugby team. If I had a daughter I wouldn't want them to go there.

Well, to main criteria is that it has to be not too far (or not too difficult a journey) from Cambridge. Newest possibility seems to Oxford Brookes which ticks the boxes pretty well, and we already know someone who has done the course there that Lou wants to do, so we know its good. And its not that easy to travel between Oxford and Cambridge, but both are within very easy reach of London, so that sort of works.

I did a fair bit of schlepping in my Uni days, and not just in the bar. I know the London / Leeds National Express route only too well. Mind you we split up shortly after that.
