Apparently that right though - although there is a fondly held belief that it is brilliant for children to be brought up in a bilingual family, the relevant statistics show that it is more likely to be bad for them and cause long term communication problems. Shame really.
......... my mother (newly immigrated at the time) was wrongly advised not to bring me up bilingual as it would confuse me because my Dad couldn't speak it, and I was already refusing to talk to anyone at the age of 4.
