I wonder if its occurred to her to ask herself - or you - why?

Because she's either studying or I'm knackered or both really. Plus I don't mind Chris talking in the background.

Keep plugging away. Things can get better.

Well that too.

Well - so do I, I suppose! I think I'm justified in saying I've been as far down in life as its possible to get and still function (after a fashion), but I'm not there any more. I hope I'm not being too much of a Pollyanna, but I do believe that most of the time really awful situations can get better. I hope so.

My Gmail account is annoying me this morning, as loads of spam seems to be getting through the filter all of a sudden. It's worked like a charm up until the last couple of days, but shed loads arrived overnight. Has my penis suddenly shrunk and nobody told me?

Actually this is depressing, not annoying, but I couldn't find an appropriate thread.

My local's been shut down. I'm devastated. I know it's a cliché, but it was so much more than just a pub. I met so many of my current friends there and it was home base for everyone.

It's all over my Facebook newsfeed this morning - so many people are upset.

I guess it's a sign that I ought to get a life, but I am gonna miss it so much. :(

Far too many pubs are being closed down these days, you wouldn't mind so much if it was the crap ones but it's normally the good ones, and do they keep the great, original Victoria building, do they bollocks, they build a shitty housing estate on there which will probably be pulled down within 20 years because they are usually thrown up so cheaply & craply that they fall to bits within five years :x

End of rant :D

Yep my local that I used to work at for about 5 years, is slowly going downhill. Started off closing Mon-Thurs nights I believe, now it's closed days too. Unless they have something booked. It's only a matter of time.

It's such a shame because if I do say so myself it is 1 of the best places in the area to get married, that's all that's keeping it going and I'm not sure that's going too well.

I was talking to 2 people I used to work there with, for all 3 of us that is our closest pub, yet none of us go there.

Then you are part of the problem.

That the pub tradition appears to be going downhill is tragic in my opinion.

My friends and I would go to this pub at least once a week (we're the reigning quiz champs) and finish the night there at least one other time a week, as it had the latest license.

I also knew many, many other people who were there very regularly, and most nights it was packed. And it wasn't cheap either.

I can't believe this has happened. Although who knows what could've gone wrong. There's a Facebook campaign to save it that was started up last night, already hitting nearly 700 members.

We have tons of ideas and loads of people pledging money, but we need to find out what's actually happened first. I'm not feeling optimistic. :(

Well we can't when it's never open. It just doesn't have the atmosphere it used to

Obviously you can't if it's not open, that goes without saying; I assumed you meant that you don't go there when it is open and you didn't go there when it was open every day.

If pubs are closing all over the place its because people aren't spending their money there any more. If there's no demand, then the businesss will close. There's no point expecting a pub to stay open just so you can go there three times a year and say how great it is.

So does this mean that less alcohol is being consumed overall, or is it just being consumed elsewhere? If elsewhere (which would be my guess), where - at home? There are only so many parks after all.

I don't know, but if people wanted to drink in pubs they wouldn't be closing. Just like shops that no-one wants to use close. The shops always blame supermarkets - I'm sure that pubs have a scapegoat as well, but I don't know what excuse they might trot out.
