Well i had a message from Beadle on Xbox live saying he had finally been banned and it had surprised him that it had only taken 3 years.

I posted a heartfelt post in a topic on assisted suicide about a dead relative, Beadle shat all over it. He went too far, simple.

Yes, it was me who reported Beadle. Do I regret it? Nope. As for the people (mainly Yudster) who say "It's only an internet messageboard, what does it have to do with real life?" well frankly you just hold a strange view. There isn't a real person sitting behind a keyboard on the internet then? Everyone who uses the internet is an emotionless robot? Well in Yudster's case, maybe, but not everyone is.

I think the majority of regulars just dont take anything seriously as its the internet and the law is to give as good as you get.....or give it out first.

Beadle did cross the mark - there simply was no need to make a comment like he did.

A topic like Assisted Suicide needs to be treated with respect, and it simply wasnt. I'm sure Beadle would not be happy if we posted something along those lines.

The only person who is compelling you to justify anything you have said or done is yourself, I'm sure neither I nor anyone else here really cares - why would we, we don't know you and never will.

And yes, it IS just the internet - by which I mean its not compulsory to be here is it? Its not your workplace, or your school, or your home, where you can't get out if you don't like it. Its an anonymous, (mostly) faceless limbo where none of us has any basis on which to assume that anyone else is who or what they seem, so why treat it like something real?

None of us are forced to post personal information or news on here, so if we do we should be prepared for the responses of whoever happens to see it - whether they are people we like and approve of or not. Some time ago someone posted some really nasty comments which were aimed at my then four year old son. I'm certainly not going to pretend that I enjoyed that, but although this person was banned, it wasn't me that complained - it just reminded me that if I talk about my family on here, I have no control over who sees that, or who comments.

If you don't like getting wet, don't go to the swimming pool. If you don't like being exposed to people that you really think (probably rightly) are arseholes, don't go on the internet.

I think cos most people are mostly fairly pleasant on this forum it lulls people into a bit of a false sense of security. I cut my messageboard teeth on metalsludge - a ferocious environment where I was followed all over the board and called fat and STD-ridden by a couple of guys I'd done nothing to. In fact one of the longest-standing, best-known posters on there died tragically of heart failure a couple days ago, but most people didn't dare post anything about his death cos it was inevitable it would attract nasty, hateful comments from his so-called 'enemies'. You develop a thick skin pretty quickly in a place like that, and Beadle wouldn't have lasted 5mins against some of the posters on there.

On other forums they're known as "Keyboard Warriors". Usually socially inept people who use forums, chatrooms and other internet based communications to vent in the same way you might see arguments in the pub, on the street, or wherever. These people generally aren't outgoing enough to be able to do such things in a confrontational manner, but are perfectly able to do it from the relative safety of the other end of a broadband line.

I know, I've been accused of being a keyboard warrior many times. It's probably true to a certain extent, although my mouth has got me into trouble many times in the past!

All true of course. Its the principle that I don't agree with, but I certainly don't advocate anarchy here or anywhere else - just because I don't like a rule doesn't mean I am going to assume it doesn't have to apply.

I'm pretty sure face to face in real life his views would differ, but given the format that this is, a certain ammount of faceless anonimity is available to us.

I agree with Yuds, who is a wise lady. You don't want to hear the opinions of others, no matter how personal or otherwise, look elsewhere! Or, keep yourself to yourself to the point that no one can make a personal attack as they no nothing of you. No one HAS to like you, or be nice to you.

I'm sure some of the more regular members here could recall a few minor details of who I actually am. Do i live my life based on feedback and approval from people here? * off!
