I disagree with you Yuds on the LD not capitalising, what more could they have done? This is the result which leaves them in the strongest position they are ever likely to be in.

My real interest is this, we all seem to feel fed up with the main two parties, but 70% of this population voted for one of them, Well thats not true, 70% of the 70% who voted, voted for them, which is in actual fact only 50% of the population, that is really * sad. I blame our parents.

They actually had a smaller share of the vote than they had last time Boboff, and they lost seats. To my mind that isn't capitalising on the goodwill they built up, its going backwards from where they were before the new Lib Dem "popularity" started. The fact that they are currently in a decent position is because both the other two parties didnt do well enough to win.

Like you I am hoping that the coalition could be reasonable. If I was Nick Clegg I'd be negotiating very hard and very ruthlessly - Cameron needs him more than he needs Cameron, I hope he remembers that.

I now live in under a Tory MP but work under a LD MP -this'll be interesting!

No they didn't, their share of the vote went up, albeit by only 1%.

This is the reason that the Liberal party (followed by the SDP and then the Lib Dems) have always wanted electoral reform - PR would reverse this. No surprise that both main parties have always been against it!

Apparently the London Borough of Redbridge now has a hung council, the Tories again have the most but Labour have built up their council seats, retaking Ilford South fully again, interesting seems that Labour have done well here which seems to be against the national trend.

Someone described the result as a perfect snooker, when you see the numbers with Lib Lab, still being short, you have to agree with that. Its the worst possible result for the status quo, anad forces Conservative Lib co-operation as the only likely workable result, but that is frought with massive issues.

I wonder if they went to the poles again, whether we could do it again!

If they went to the polls again, I don't see the Tories doing as well... I think the Lib Dems would keep the seats they won, but in places they lost, I reckon Lib Dem voters would be a lot more tactical and switch to Labour.

This is turning into a farce. I really hope the Lib Dem's don't do a deal with Labour, the electorate made it perfectly clear that they are not wanted.

If it does happen, I hope it's only a for short term period where the sort out the voting reform then call another election. But do we really need this instability at the moment? And is anybody going to be happy about yet another unelected Labour MP becoming prime minister?

Let's be clear, every single Prime Minister is unelected except for as an MP. You do not vote for your prime minister, you vote for your MP. The leader of the party with an overall majority then becomes Prime Minister; if this does not happen, you get coalitions or minority governments and Labour and the Lib Dems combined have more votes and seats than the Tories.
