If you put an average sized marshmallow in the microwave it expands. If you left it in long enought then it might explode.

Apparently you can put an unlit candle in the microwave and it will light itself.

if you are scrambling an egg in the microwave make sure you stop every 10 seconds to stir..as a few days ago..i forgot and ended up cleaning the microwave due to egg coating it

I find this hard to believe - microwaves work by vibrating water molecules, so the chances of one lighting a candle seem remote. I don't have a microwave so I can't test this.

I remember an Adam and Joe show from ages ago where they tried putting random objects in the microwave. From their experiments, a lightbulb in a glass of milk will light up and a compact disc will flare up. Fun stuff.

Appropriately, ZAQAZ looks like Joe Cornish. - jc

If you put a lightbulb in the microwave, it lights up. Dunno about the energy saving floresant ones, have to try it. (by the way, it wrecks the bulb!)

I believe you need to use a candle that has previously been lit. The black, charred part of the wick contains ions (and possibly free-radicals). The microwaves should stimulate these ions (in much the same way as the microwaves stimulate the off-set electomagnetical polarity of the water molecules). As the wick is the focal point for the reaction, enough energy should be produced to light the candle.

However, I'm still not stupid enough to try it in my own microwave. Having said that, I'll probably try it this weekend after I've had a few jars.

Ad,
I used to be a Physics student (where I learnt about candles in microwaves), but now I waste my spare time by being a self-employed mortgage adviser. At least I earn my money now, I've already done my stint of getting paid by the government for doing nothing but drinking.
