Alright children, calm down. Simon: we've established that there is a need to close the lines at some point, so with this in mind, what about the way Aled does it bugs you, and what do you think would be a better way?

I just think it sounds really amateurish when he jumps in inbetween songs to say it.


In line with current complaining policy, that's not really constructive, is it ;)

Maybe you'd prefer him to wave?

It's better than saying it during a song!


And indefinitely better than him not closing them at all, and having a lot of disgruntled people who've paid to call, and get told "They closed before such and such song". I'd be slightly annoyed, anyway.

Disgruntled people yes, but more to the point if it isn't announced the BBC will get into shedloads of trouble and at the very least won't be allowed to do competitions again, and possibly might have even bigger badder sanctions imposed.

Did anyone hear Thursday's show, they played a recording of Aled saying the lines are closed in the first segway after celebrity raspberry!


I'm too tired in the morning to remember the show order, but don't they play the game, then open the lines for the next day?

How does the whole system work ? I presume the producer/operator asks the caller who they think is the raspberry, so if someone rang up on day one to give the correct answer, are they told they can't go on because it is too soon ? Or is the first correct answer chosen regardless what day, or does the operator even not know who it is and only checks for duplicates ?

The person who answers the phone doesn't know who it is but asks them anyway and then they just pick somebody from random really but preferably the most enthusiastic.

The lines are open for about half an hour before the game, I'm fairly certain it was a nod to this thread.

Yeah, though I think they've only just started doing it this year.

I remember thinking there were going to be two celebrities-making-stupid-noises segments and deciding the only way to avoid it was to go back to sleep to find I'd missed half the show and was late for work:(
