To me it's fairly obvious Murdoch has done this to try and bury the thing and try to distance himself from it as much as he possibly can.

With the advertisers starting to abandon the paper, it was just a matter of time I think before they would have had to close their doors.

The money isn't in papers, it's in telly, and Rupert has been setting his eyes on the prize for so long. He'd sacrifice all of this just to keep cosy the tories arrangement.

This musn't happen. I believe the wheels were set in motion last Friday when the Guardian's editorial spoke of concern over the deep, dark Murdoch tentacles at the heart of government. Next thing you know, the full extent of hacking is made aware. The celeb/politician hacking was just for starters. I'm with Avaaz 100% and I dont want to see the bid successful.

Whether people want more 'choice' or not, the simple concern at the heart of all of this (aside from the hurt of families) is why one man who has gained power and spread fear so much in the past is now being handed more of it! He doesn't pay tax either.

Before it all blows over, I hope we can use this spotlight to derail all of Murdoch empire's ambitions. Hold him to account.

Listening to a celebs phone calls for gossip is 1 thing (though I'm not for one second saying its ok) - but giving the worried parents of a missing child false hope by hacking into her phone and deleting messages so it seemed she had access to the phone is absolutely disgusting!

My sympathy's to those innocent workers who have lost their jobs because of the the greedy ways of others

They've all had to loose their jobs just because of something others did. Although that's not to say the phone hacking was justified. That's just beyond journalism of any kind completely.

I was doing work experience in the newsroom of a news service that supplies to News International when this story first broke on Sky News. They might as well have just announced the Queen had died.

You work for an evil corporation then that's what happens. It isn't like NOTW is the evil child of News International, it is an evil core and its extensions just serve that. Yes innocent people are losing their jobs but the vile excuses for journalism didn't end at phone hacking and there's probably a lot even now that is yet to be unearthed.

In all seriousness I hated the paper, and won't mourn it's departure, however I do feel sorry for those who worked there who weren't involved in all this bollocks, they don't deserve to be out of a job because that prick Murdoch is desperate to buy BSkyB, plus Rebecca Brooks keeping her job is outrageous, however I shouldn't really be surprised.

There'll be a lot of people who had nothing to do with it, who never experienced the unpleasant side of 'news'papers, who in all honesty believed they worked for a decent upstanding company with journalistic integrity and a desire to report the news.

For them, they deserve sympathy and to an extent gratitude.

The rest of them? They're the worst kind of parasitic scum.

Good riddance to a disgrace of an organ.
