Forgive my awful Jade Goody-style geography, but Devon is near Cornwall, isn't it? I went to Cornwall once - the only holiday I ever had with my parents - and it took 9 hours to get there. Much as I love you all, I couldn't travel that far. I am very travel-sick.

Paddington to Plymouth is 3 hours on the train, two and a bit to Exeter, Add an hour for Car travel.
Glasgow is 9 hours from here. Manchester 5 hours I reckon, probably less.
They have built Motorways and bypasses and that in the last 25 years that have helped enourmously!

The megabus from Exeter to London can be from £10 return, but takes 4 and a half hours.

Yeah, crazy isn't it. Four and a half hours of travel from London could either get you to Exeter or... {insert name of your favourite sun-kissed southern European location here}. And I bet easyjet is comparable with Southwest trains too.
