Yes, especially Daves "just leave it today" comment regarding people questioning whether Dom was pulling another sickie or not. Chris did say everything was okay though.

Funny, I actually took it as them trying to make an excuse for him which sounded serious/more serious that it was (Chris was very quick to add that 'everything is ok though') just to get Dom off the hook for having yet another day off, as a result of the people who had started texting in straight away after half six news giving him stick for pulling a sickie. Family issues could be anything, from the very serious to things such as having a kid with a cold or tummy bug and there's no one else to mind them (there are certain people who use this excuse a lot where I work-get a back-up plan!) or having to take a child to their first day at a new school or creche etc. I got the impression it was more that end of the scale this morning. I could of course be wrong, I hope I'm not.

Something else that came to mind this morning with Dom's absence, was how seemingly easy it is for Dom and Tina to cover for one another and have one person doing both news and sport. They better not take too many more days off or the BBC will get wind of the possibility of making some cuts and saving themselves some money! In which case, I would vote Tina to go.

I somehow don't think it is that easy for the News department if one of them is missing. Of course Tina can always read the news and Dom read the sport, but I'm sure there are other people in the background who have to run around a little more and prepare the stories otherwise Dom & Tina would.

I've never believed that there's an operational need for there to be two presenters on the news and sport, especially given that the bulletins last only seconds really. The fact that the Breakfast Show has two is more a reflection of the implied importance of the show than anything else.

Dom's absence today was obviously planned and prepared for in advance (and lets not forget that Dom is freelance so he wouldn't have been paid for today, so he isn't "pulling" anything), and it was just as obviously a personal matter. I hope its ok too.

He must have been a good old age, with Dom being in his late thirties himself. Good genes there.

Mm, that's what I thought too. All my grandparents were dead before I turned 25. One of my grandfathers actually died before I was born.

I'm very lucky - I still have three out of four of my grandparents (though I'd give anything for the other one - who died when I (and she) was quite young - to see Reuben). In fact, up until about a year ago, my dad's gran was still alive at 94 and my dad was 50 this year.

Well my grandfather on my mother's side has been gone for 12 years and my grandmother on my father's side 7! Father never knew who his father was so I don't know my grandfather on his side but I only have my grandmother on my mother's side left and she is in her 80s.

I'm kinda jealous of people who still have grandparents alive - my flatmate still has two and I'm always telling him to go see them more often. My mum's mum died in 1999 and I still miss her.

2 of mine were dead before I was born, I met the 2 (both Grandparents) when I was very young, but unfortunately never got to see them again since my academic commitments and Dad's work got in the way (going to Sri Lanka would take quite some time). The rest of the family saw my last grandparent a few times, but I never did - and I feel terrible about it. I'm so jealous of those who have a grandparent...the Werther's Original adverts used to make me really sad.

One of mine is still alive too, but I never met the other 3, they all died before I was born. Tragic in itself due to the fact my Dad was quite young when his parents died, but apparently I'm the absolute double of my maternal grandfather but I never got to meet him.

I spent half of my childhood with my my mother parents and nowadays they're always there for me and thankfully very accepting of me being gay.

Dom also tweeted that he had a some sort of car trouble and got stranded after the funeral, poor man. Don't think it was a good day.

I think it might be my age (22) but I have all grandparents living and one great-grandparent who is 84 - I have a very young family on one side!
