I had this issue with dreamed and dreamt when I was listening to the Harry Potter audio books a few months ago, and with that I think either is fine.

Stephen Fry's voice is magical in the context of those books. His accents are quite good too, I've been listening to the Hunger Games and it's apparent how good he was - because the woman reading it was good, but nowhere near as engaging as Fry.

Also, this story about an elderly couple accidentally growing this giant cannabis plant has really tickled me (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-be ... s-19868327).

It takes real skill to read and perform so many different characters so distinctly, and HP has over 100 apparently. I learned that in an interview with Jim Dale, who narrates the American version (which I've never heard).

Also, I always believed Stephen's Hermione to be way better than Emma Watson's and his was always the "real" one to me (although that may be more because of the way Hermione was written in the movies than how Emma portrayed her).

Yeah, I think that the Hermione of the books wasn't as attractive, and while her character would appeal to parents - I doubt it would appeal to young girls in quite the same way, as she was a bit of an anti social geek (who was annoyingly know-it-all) for the first few books. The film's Hermione is much more of an archetypal role model - there is a massive difference between the two, but probably a necessary one.

I think this was at the expense of the character though - the films should have gone somewhere between the two. Emma's Hermione was too good at everything including things that shouldn't have come naturally to someone who didn't grow up in the wizarding world. Book Hermione did have some very admirable traits (which Harry didn't always appreciate), but unfortunately there was no time for them in the film so I suppose they went for the superwoman route instead.

Also I feel that her friendship with Harry was (after the 2nd film) elevated above Ron's friendship with Harry, to the point where she was seen as the female lead to Harry's male lead as opposed to one of two equal supporting characters alongside Ron. That annoyed me although I suppose - again - maybe the film-makers thought doing anything else would appear sexist and wouldn't work as well on screen these days.
