It's a bit late but I've only just found out. Jacques Antoine the creator of the Crystal Maze died a couple of weeks ago.
He did loads of my favourite shows, genuine oh no

I used to love Fort Boyard.

Ohno - that's no age at all! I didn't like the Emanuelle films mainly because Sylvia Kristel was so completely opposite in appearance to the description of Emanuelle in the books, but there's no doubt the films were iconic of their era. Oh no.

I know it was old technology but there was something so charming about seeing those graphics still in 2012, TBH I still prefer Ceefax to BBC Red Button, Ceefax just seemed to work better.

I like reference to Oracle in there too, those old names just sounded better too.

A sad day indeed. The first "New Media" gone forever. Close to my heart having worked for TELETEXT handled numerouse question about why half of Mr bamboozles face was mssing, worked for both the Austalian Caption Centre and the BBC/REDBEE media in the IT end of captioning. Worked for SKY Text. Went to the end of TELTEXT party last year and now Ceefax gone, the VBI will be a dessolate place from now on maybe Packet 8/30 might have some PDC data for the VHS luddites.
There are Ex oracle staff still working for SKY text though.....yay.

This is sad. Ceefax has always been there in the background since way before I was born, and I used to end up watching it sometimes after I'd got in from a night out while I was waiting for something I wanted to watch to come on(usually a Grand Prix from somewhere like Japan or Australia). Plus it reminded me of BBC computers.

All depends on your perspective. Coronation Street has been a fixture in my parents' house for my entire life - I grew up seeing faces like Bill Tarmey on the TV screen two/three times a week. Just because he wasn't a Hollywood movie star or something, doesn't mean his death isn't pretty big news to a lot of people.

Not sure you can say to someone it's not a huge death. It's up to the person affected by it. If you're a Corrie fan then it is pretty huge as Bill Tarmey played a huge character in the show and is a big part of its history.
