I know that The Streets aren't very popular on here but i'm glad that he has been rewarded for a great year, as for the Best single i didn't expect anything less than the nominations. Personaly i think Will Young deserves it because Evergreen was easily the best "pop" single in the nominations but i thouh Darius Colourblind was better than all of them. Also after hearing both the streets album and Ms Dynamites, The Streets is a league above Ms Ds record but don't get me wrong ms ds album was good. Mercury Awards=Bullshit

The Streets cd is on heavy rotation in my car but i can't find the Streets t-shirt anywhere. I like Will Young, he won against the odds and then came out just after winning which normally is a no-no in the pop world, also like Darius he chose not to wok with Simon Cowell(which basically means that he will sustain far supirior longetivety) and his voice is better than Gareth Gates. He is a bit of a diva happarently.

I think he comes across as an arrogant little shit.

gareth gates is worse admittedly, but, as it has been said before, all these people like will, gareth, etc need to do an original song, not cover a pop hit that was around years ago

The thing i hate about Gareth is by coveing the Elvis record he dresses like Elvis and these gulible Smash Hits Marks will comparing him with someone who is far supeior. Also GG was compared with Tom Jones, like him or not Tom Jones has got a superb voice and the nearest thing to elvis and Gareth gates is a singing gimp. Also(pt2) GG had a stutter but he could sing fine, thats like saying "well i cannot walk without the aid of crutches but i can do the 100metres in 10 seconds"

i know loads of people who stutter but can sing fine. that's a faulty part of your argument.

as for the rest. gg is nothing but a pile of pish. your record buying public loves him. suit yourself.

The "singles" record buying public come from two categories. Under eight year olds and record company execs who buy god know how many copies to get their signings record on top.

The albums chart is a lot less corrupt IMO (although i wouldnt say completely straight - its just people seem to pay less attetion to it) and older people with a more developed music taste buy it.

agree with lasto about the stutter. it may be legit, but its weird

I saw WY and GG in concert (don't ask, not my idea but I got a free ticket so why the hell not?) and Gareth came across as quite full of himself, going along kissing all the girls hands. Now Will did this aswell but it was the style, GG would be looking 'meaningfully' into their eyes and be very slow and 'sedictive'. And all these little girlys fell for it. Will was ace though, came across as dead nice and whatever you say about him he can sing amazingly. Their guitarist was dead good an all.

Will is always a good guest on Chris's show. He comes across as a really nice bloke too.

I don't think that's true, I think in general we quite like The Streets, I can only think of a couple of exceptions.

I wouldn't say I like them but I don't dislike them either, if that makes sense. They're just one of those bands (or is it just a bloke, I dunno much about them) that are listenable but hold no interest for me.

i liked the streets before all the pretentious indie kids in the states "discovered" him and are championing him as the next best thing since the white stripes. ugh... where do they get this stuff?

as for stuttering- i used to stammer, but i won the day. my brother still does, as does a good friend. it happens.
