I'm quite nosey and was wondering what your plans are for Valentines day? Is it a big deal to you? Is it a waste of money?

Speaking for myself I see it as a bit pointless if you are in a long term relationship. I know that's not an opinion shared by a lot of people but everyone is different.

I've only had three boyfriends in the past, and with two of those we made an agreement not to 'do' Valentine's Day. So, aware that it was approaching, I asked Mr Red what his thoughts on it were, and we agreed we'd get each other cards. Hence I have bought one - the first time in over 20yrs I've done anything for Valentine's.

For Christmas my sister booked us a hotel room and meal at Fawsley Hall with an old film shown after our meal in their cinema so we will be doing that on the 16th for our valentines.

It was fun when I was a kid, but I have no truck with Hallmark holidays and Valentines Day is firmly in that category.

We're using it as an excuse to go out for a fancy dinner. Not on valentine's day itself - prices are silly, and then menus are limited.

I think we'll just have a nice night in with a film, takeaway and wine on the day itself.

I'll probably buy a mid range gift & flowers.

(St) Valentine's Day isn't supposed to be about already-established couples being more romantic than usual - it's about declaring your love for someone. The definition has evolved in recent decades due to commercialisation, and couples have hijacked it as a result.

Mind you, I'm sure I'd be doing the same if I weren't single.

We're kinda the same as Andy, we'll use it as an excuse to go for a nice meal and the 'other' stuff which couples in love like to do, but certainly won't be on V-day, too expensive and too busy. Yes, there will be a card exchange and maybe a £10 bunch o flowers for 'er, but that'll be about all.

Nathan, although that card is kinda funny, I must agree with Bob's minor dig - lucky lass!

Won't be doing much. Money's pretty tight at the moment, so my wife and I will exchange cards at most probably. Personally, the day's become so commercialized that I've become pretty jaded over the whole thing.
