Teh meaning of life, the universe and everything is 42.

As to the second point, can anyone honestly say they are truly happy with their current situation in life? There's always something that can be improved, unless of course you're shaggíng Baby Spice...

Lifes never perfect, you can be happy, but in the back of your mind you know it can't last forever.

A great man once told me
"Life is full of up's and downs and great experiences. How ever it is just a ride, some people look around and think look at my wonderful stuff. But they forget it is just a ride. Some people have realized the ride goes round and round and they speak up. All we do is go and kill these people. So just remember life is a ride, enjoy it"
And it's true so that's my small bit of wisdom that I like to stick by.

But surely that's what makes life interesting - if everything was perfect you'd have nothing to aim for, so there'd be no point.

the society we live in is one where there is always some people who rise above the rest and achieve greatness and we have the means to look upon this greatness through the media and thus we try to emulate this greatness and no-one could think they would be truly happy until they do. But however great people may become there will always be one entity greater than them all, that of God. So people can never really be truly happy

That statement assumes the reader believes in God, but that doesn't apply to people such as me who are atheist.

Even if you strip out the God bit and look at the emulation of successful people in the media, I don't believe that most people try to emulate successful people because they see that as a way of being happy in life. Or do they? Feel free to prove me wrong.

people do

people say 'oh that david beckham, hes such an idiot....although i wouldnt mind having all the money he has, and his wife'

people do it without even realising

i dunno why i put the god bit in there just ignore it the rest makes sense

You could then apply that to non-famous people as well then.

Thinking about it, before you can actually come up with a definitive answer to the whole question, you first need to come up with a definitive answer to the question "What is happiness?", which is of course impossible, as happiness is a totally arbitrary concept anyway.

Firstly, hapiness, or at least a definition of it (we'll assume for illustrative purposees here at least that we can generalise happiness at least a little) is likely to differ depending on the society in which you live - happiness for someone who lives in a third world country is likely to mean something totally different to someone living in somewhere such as the UK.

Then you have to also assume that happiness means different things to people within those societies; for example, for me, happiness may mean having enough money to pay my bills and have enough left over to go out on a friday night, whereas for someone else, it may be simply being content with being able bodied and healthy.

Therefore, it's impossible to come up with a generalised comment such as MiniMaximus' above post that would ever be accepted by everybody.

ive actually been in a really good mood since christmas now an its freaking me out...

as for the meaning of life i think its what you can to get through your days in the best way possible. just as an example standing in the gwladys street stand when your team has just come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 is f*cking excellent....

For me at the minute, life is being able to get drunk at the end of the day. It occured to me today that this has got to stop (even though I have just come back from the pub).

Ultimately, I'd be happy if I could find a woman that I really love, settle down and have a family, and have a job that I really enjoy. If I could achieve that, then I'd die a happy man.

Sidla, life should be about getting drunk at the end of the day.

Now about the woman thing, according to the board profiles you are only a bit older than me. For od's sake don't settle down with anyone yet, it's too early. I have a 22 year old mate who is married and has just had his 2nd kid. Now apart from being amazing, 'cos a lot of people would run at the first sign of pregnancy in their gf, I know that without the kids he would be such a drinker. Its a great waste, what I'm trying to say is you would regret it big time mate.
