That's right. After 7pm, all these local stations network up. All the programs after 7pm come from a single studio in Bristol. I found out recently that these stations take the link from the radio channel The Mix on SkyDigital and just play in local jingles and adverts for their relavent area. I think this is all automated too. How did I find this? Well, the sky receiver at Hereward FM messed up a few weeks ago and somehow got tuned to the SkyDigital information channel. For nearly 20 minutes Hereward were playing out a guide on how to use the on screen listing system until someone realised.
On to another story, I was joking in the car with a mate as to what would happen if you phoned up a local station and requested a track that would be considered not 'poppy' enough, or something totally hardcore. He then got his mobile out to see. I couldn't believe he was doing this but the conversation between him and the DJ went along the lines of this...
Bear in mind that this was at about 2pm.
<DJ> Hereward FM
<Mate> Can I request a track please?
<DJ> Certainly. What would you like to hear?
<Mate> NWA - F*!k the police.
<DJ> Excuse me?
<Mate> NWA - F*!k the police.
<DJ> Errrr........ I don't think I have that.
<Mate> What about Straight out of Compton?
<DJ> Errrr...... no. Would you like some free theatre tickets?
<Mate> No thanks. Can you just play something by 2pac then?
<DJ> I'll see what I can do.
*Hangs up*
After 30 minutes of enduring endless Westlife, Savage Garden, etc I put my Ministry annual on. Made us laugh though.
