Firstly Chris, this is just an idea as I have noticed a few people like myself asking for technichal help, maybe you could create a "technical help" forum or something so as not to clutter up the general one. You may see having another forum as a bit too much but anyway... That's my suggestion.

On to the main point... Can you remove the 2 hour disconnect thing on dial-up internet connections?

It depends. Sometimes the disconnect is set by the ISP to prevent people staying connected all day downloading stuff when they're not there. If this is the case then no, you can't get rid of it because it's set by the server and you have no control over it.
Sometimes your dial-up networking settings are set up to disconnect after a given amount of time if the connection is idle. If yours is then you should be able to change it. I can't remember how to do it though, I'll have a look at the weekend if you havn't done it by then.

Think this is correct.

Ah bugger, I think you be right there on the first one. I've set it to never disconnect when left idle so it can't be that.
Oh well, I'll have to get Real Download again as it allows you to pause downloads then resume later on!

if you have ntlworld dial up theres nothing you can do, that used to really annoy me

if your on one of those 0800 or 0808 monthly thingys then no you cant get rid of it, because they dont want you leaving your pc connected whilst they are paying for the call. you may find an isp that has a 3hr disconnect instead but thats the best you will find. is broadband available in ur area? that has no cut off at all. also if your not using up your monthly payment to the ISPs in phone call time you might as well go pay per minute, they dont have disconnects either, but work out more expensive with heavy usage. im just stating all your options and yes most of it is obvious 8)

if you have ntlworld dial up, its £10 a month unlimited use plus about £6 a month line rental on the phone socket

but...

you can get 128kbps broadband from ntl for £15 a month which your phone goes through too

I don't know if I can get it but I don't want broadband 'cause it's more money than I care to pay!
I'll just have to live with the 2 hour limit.

What is that ISP and how much does that cost you?

http://www.zetnet.co.uk - they are based in shetland. I think it's £5 a month to them, and £5 a month to bt for surftime. The reason I have them is because I have had them since 1998 when I first got the internet and now I know the owners so there is no point getting rid of it.

I also have BT ClosedWorld, but the less said about them, the better.

well it's head office is in shetland - it's technical side is in manchester. If it's servers were in shetland you could expect webservers on a 56k line.

That really annoys me when I get cut off every two hours aswell. Im with Bt and they used to do Bt Anytime but now they have started to only give you 50 hours a month and then any over you have to pay extra which really p***ed me off.

The two hour thing is especially annoying if you are trying to download something.

Agreed. It can also be annoyng when surfing web pages that don't require much bandwith but disconect you because they see it as 'idle'

is it not 150 hours per month?
By Dopey

Yes but cut of is every 150 seconds for me. So it is VERY hard to post here for me.

Chris Moyles being the key word that this site is about so it has nothing to do with techinal stuff.

surely thats MORE of a reason to have a seperate forum for help so that this forum can stay more on topic !

No not really and often things like that are asked in the Site Questions area and it's hardly a big enough need for a whole new topic on it.

most forums have an off-topic section. how many threads in this room right now have anything to do with chris moyles?

If everything had to be dead on Chris Moyles related topics then it wouldn't be that full so there's no harm in some other stuff.
