Cigarette advertising is banned as from tomorrow, so I thought what an ingenious idea it was for Lambert and Butler to do a montage of all their best adverts and place them on a poster for today's Sun. If you think about it, people are going to pin the poster on their walls, so we do all the advertising that Lambert & Butler need, and we don't get a penny for it. Great marketing strategy!

Shame most of them arn't funny so you wouldn't really want them on your wall. If you like those ads then I spose it is very clever.

Doesn't stop cigarette advertising all together, yous till get it in sport even if it is slightly censored you can tell what they are still.

is this for all cigarette advertising in all forms? i know in the us it's restricted to billboards and print ads, but must be kept away from schools and kiddie stuff.

Thats why the age of retirement is going to have to increase as people are living longer lives so get their pension more when there's less and less money. Have to say i pity people that smoke. Your paying for your own early death - how stupid? Although it does relax you after a long stressful day. But who are we to tell people not to smoke???

what i am opposed to is government ads telling me that smoking will kill me. i know that smoking might kill me, i don't need to be reminded of it everytime i read a magazine or switch the telly on. why can't the media just leave the subject alone and let people make their own minds up

and the hamlet adverts were pure class, i especially liked the one with gregor fisher in the photo booth

Isn't that the same thing? You don't advertise a Ford Focus expecting your customers to buy one so they can sit there and look at it...

their not telling people that smoking is great, they are saying, to people who know their cigarettes, that the cigarettes are great.

when a ford focus is advertised they are saying that driving is great and that the car is great.

anyway, my point with that post is that if there is going to be no tobacco advertising then there should be no anti-smoking advertisemnet as well

if this was true there wouldnt be a multi-million pound advertising industy. of course publicising cigs makes people go an buy them an there is plenty of evidence to back it up. if what you say is true new products would never get any customers...

There is one advert that keeps me smoke free and has worked for 20 years. Its called nostrils, smoke stinks so does your partners breathe hands, clothes and house. But admitedly i like the smell of cigars and skunk but honestly i can say i never smoke

pipe tobacco has a great smell to it like really strong coffee. cant say i ever felt the need to smoke though...

who here smokes? i will be the first to say that i am a smoker. have a very sore throat, smelly jacket (no ash burns yet), no girlfriend and it has been my new years resolution to give up for the last 2 years

The reason fags is a multi-million pound industry is the adictiveness (if thats a word) of it. I don't buy much anything because I see it advertised, you would have to be pretty fickle.

i'm not a smoker but i think it's great. it gives me an easy way to quickly judge a person. it lets me spot (or smell) really stupid people without even having to talk to them. it's like a public sign saying 'hey, im a really thick person'

Not really, if you smoke it might mean that they started at school but wish they never had but can't give up now, it could be a whole load of different things.

tbh i don't see how starting at school makes a difference, even as a kid you know what it does.

it's like fat people, whenever i see them i think 'no self control' and when i see girls i just think 'sluts'.

Yeah, but at school you think you are hard when you do it. A lot of my mates are smokers and they're not thick.

About the fat people, you can be born that way you know. Although I do find it quite funny to take the piss a bit, I don't think its fair to say that they have no self control.

And girls... Unfortunately not all girsls are sluts. If I see a slut I'm bloody lucky...

all babies are fat when they're born, it's the nature of babies. some people are brought up in a way that teaches them self control, some are not. if fat people had self control they would eat a more sensible diet and would lose weight. im not talking about non-thin people, im not a thin person myself, im talking about fat people.
