As they are getting rid of the obligation to do GCSE languages I wondered what are your points of view, I think it's a good idea as I chose to do German and Got an A*, but I would have dropped french if I had the option as I only got a B and that was only through copying a french guy in my class...

I nearly missed an A* in my GCSE French. And I realise it was pointless really, like it won't really be useful...Like Pythagoras' theorem, or algebra...what's the point...*sigh*

Probably, we've just had a law saying that languages don't have to be taken as GCSEs but one can do more practical things, like plumbing!

I used to hate languages, couldn't stand it, its just a shame they didn't do this sooner.

I take German...My prelim grade was good, but if I had the choice of not picking a language I definitely would not take one...It is a lot to learn.

Remember in wales, welsh is compulsory up to the age of 16. never mind trying to get foreigners to speak english, the english should make an effort to learn the languages of their own island (English, Welsh and Gaelic) before slagging off other languages. By the way , I got an A grade gcse in Welsh and German, the German was p*ss easy, but the welsh, i honestly dont know how i got my A in it!

People say they 'only' got a and b like it was a bad thing. At our school we did compulsary french years 7, 8, 9 and then had the option to drop it and do Spanish aswell. The work was just as hard but you had less than half the space of time to do it, as you were starting from scrach. And yes I was still stupid enough to take it, there was 1 GCSE class (which halved by the end as people were failing anyway and couldn't be bothered to carry on), and out of all of it me and one other girl got a C. Everybody else got D, E, F, G or U. And I'm proud of it because I had two years to do that bloody course and I came out with my head held high.

They should keep languages compulsary in Key Stage 3 as I think its good to learn a bit of another language, but by key stage 4 people are old enough to make up there own minds. I think they should offer a broader range aswell, we had the choice of french, spanish, urdu or punjabi and that ws it.

I only meant that in comparison to my A* in
German. I only got an A in Maths and other than that I got B or less, so I'm not saying was bad!

baby bear's not so bad, neithe ris hedwig. what i find amusing is that it's asg complaining about it! it's just like if lewis told baby_bear to sod off or sumat.

as for your mark in german, asg, good job. it'll get you a job for sure.

I think other languages are vital. i feel so embarrsed asking for summat in english in another country. I know french, german, bit of spanish, bit of gujerati.
