ok, so why do they spell some places so that they are really hard to pronounce

for example. how do you say

TEWKESEBURY

and what sort of people come from somewhere this hard to say

oh its all so confusing for my brain :?

Tewkesbury isn't hard to say is it?

My mum grew up in a small place called Barton in the Beans.
My dad grew up in a place called Shakerstone (pronounces Shack-er-ston), which is close to a place called Congerstone (cun-jer-ston).

But that's a general rule, the w is never really pronounces in cases such as that. There's a place called Whitwick near us.

By the way, the locals pronounce Tamworth Tammoth.

Just so you all know - Wolverhampton is correctly pronounced 'Wul-ver-amp-tun'. Cos thats how we say it and we live 'ere.

in north cornwall i always get confused because of the "tre" at the beggining of most place names

That's a different Whitwick I think. I'm talking about Whitwick, Leicestershire. Whitwick Manor is in Herefordshire I think.
