The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Don't get many F1 posts, wonder if thats 'cos I'm the only one who's interested, but I just wondered, especially following this afternoons qualifying, what people think of the new rule changes this year.

One change they didn't mention in that BBC article is the fact that the car is impounded from when qualifying ends to when the race starts, so the teams cannot change the tyres or fuel level, so there will be a few tactical decisions going on there.

They had to do something to stop that bloody german. I have high hopes, I might start watching it again this year.

Hopefully it will make it more fair. I will follow it, I always do anyway but the it will be interesting to see how it all works like this, whever it makes it fair or not.

Topher watch out, being nasty about Schumacher...Ickle won't be pleased!

I used to be an avid fan, but I can't say I have watched it for the last two years, because it got predictable.

It's ironic how the 2 Ferraris are still front of the grid considering the rules were brought it to prevent that.

The rest of the line-up is interesting though. The BARs and Saubers are looking good, couldn't have predicted that. Toyota are also looking like they could do well this season.

I think Ferrari will still dominate, but the rest is really open to competition, which should improve things considerably.

It immeaditly looked exciting as soon as i changed over from the late night movie. I missed most of the races last year because of i cant be arsedness. But it looks like im going back to videoing each race again.

Thats exactly like me, I never watched a single race start to finish last year, but before about 2000 I got the right hump if I couldn't watch it.

And about Schumacher, being a massive Damon Hill fan when he was around (you wouldn't ever see me without a Hill cap on) I can't stand the cheating Kraut bastard.

Yes, he's very good, but if he ain't winning he cheats (Adelaide 94, Suzuka 99.)

Fisichella, one to watch if the Jordan is any good, I think hes very good.

Contrary to popular opinion though, I quite enjoyed last season. Micheal was just taking the piss. I was in histerics when they tried to make that dead heat!

i hardly watched last season and if krauty wins tomorow i wont watch this season either. i agree with topher on the whole cheating thing. it's also funny that two of the last people to win the championship except krauty ie hill and villy both got transferred to a shitty car the very next season after they won.

i think the changes to qualifying are a good thing except the impounding thing. who does that disadvantage? people with unreliable cards mainly. who has the most reliable car in the world ever? krauty :(

If you look at the times they have been doing in winter testing it really isn't that surprising. As for Sauber what do you expect they have Frentzen.

As for Villenurve he stayed with Williams the folloing year after his championship win and didn't get booted out of them he choose to leave as his friend has set up BAR in which he has shares.

I have followed F1 since around 1991 but never took a great interest and I started to follow the Jordan team as I liked the way it was run and if you look at Jordan. It's thanks to them you have a huge chunk of the brilliant drivers you do today.

I don't generally follow the winter testing, it's not very well reported in the media.

This is very true, a couple of years back there was one race where every driver in the top 6 either drove for or had driven for Jordan. A proud moment in Eddie Jordans life, I'm sure (I like him too.)

BTW, that Autosport site I llinked to - I just realised you have to register which is a bit annoying, but if you don't want to do that there will be more sites and teletext is not too bad for it.

The only way they could stop Schumacher from winning again is to make him tow a caravan!

ok cars going around in circles what is the real attraction? its just like athletics, cycling, horse racing... now if they combined all four (kind of like a better version of a triatholon) i'd watch...
By timb
#62688
the attraction is that they are trying to go around the non circular 'circle' as fast as they can and to beat their opponents

yeah but thats just rubbish. its even worse than the other sports i mentioned because in f1 its not a test of driver skill but of technology. either they should all be given the same car to race or they should add a bit where you win extra points for good crashes cos thats the only reason to watch...

i agree that it's not a fair test of drivers. it is just a test of a weird driver / car combination. it is however quite interesting sometimes, because there are people from different countries and you can support your nations drivers and teams.
