I don't know wether we should go or not. Part of me says we shouldn't go without UN backing, but France are going to veto it whatever happens which means we're never going to get UN backing.

To be honest, the US are going to go to war anyway, so why do we not just let them go without us? It's not as though they're going to lose.

To be fair, its a very "I'm young and I don't give a shit about politics, therefore the war is boring" which is a view I held about politics till not long ago, now I realise that unfortunately, politics is very much a part of everyones lives whether we like it or not.

I still don't think we should go and I actually wish I had gone to the march in the city now.

the war will happen, as adam said, and that depresses the hell out of me. one of my friends was arrested this weekend at a protest in sf, and it seemed so futile. what's the point in protesting what the us (and uk in some part) wants to see happen? i will respect any france, germany, russia, or china if they use the veto, but military will still procede, that's what kills me.

i accept the french, germans an even in a way china but the russians need to look at themselves in chechnya before they throw any stones...

i'll grant you that. but it still seems sorta fishy, or suspect, to still talk of the war and be agressive if 2/3s of the permanent security council are against the resolution.

I think it'll happen eventually no matter what countries try to do to block it. Personally, I think we should go in and get it over with, no point waiting another 6 months letting UN inspectors nosey around finding nothing.

which could mean that there was nothing to find in the first place...

we are the agressors and that's what the historians will say centuries from now. batten down your war hawks.

basically.......... no matter what views everyone has on the war........ nobody is going to listen to them, as it is going to go ahead no matter wot people think...... end of story........(full stop capital letter)......

i don't think it's that bleak. take a cue from robin cook. he has listened to the british people. i wish major american politicians would listen to us.

how bunk is that? american won't even let the un tell them they're in the wrong.
By timb
#65297
robin cook wasn't listening to anyone else but himself. and why would america listen to the UN? there is nothing morally justifying about the UN

robin cook at least is of the same opinion as a very vocal portion of the british population. lucky for him it worked out that way, huh?

even so............ the public and other members of parliment points of views are not taken seriously.......

Even if the whole goverment revolted against the ruling to go to war, Tony Blair a.k.a lap dog, will still go ahead, as he is sooo far up bushes rear that he aint seen no light!!!!.......... or in otherwords........ tony is bushes hand puppet... no brain cell to rub together on his own!!
By timb
#65302
yeah i'm sure blair does just what bush tells him, i'm sure thats why we had the first resolution and spent so long going for a second. it's got nothing to do with the fact that a war is morally justified and is the right thing to do, except of course burrying your head in the sand, which everyone knows is the best thing to do when faced with tough choices.

The french are doing the right thing IMO, and that's very hard for me to say that 'cos the only French person I ever liked was a girl called Elodie who used to be my goddaughters au pair.

I agree with everyone who said it will happen no matter what, which is a * shame.

the french veto pushed us closer to war and i'm sure that was their intention, the frency president was just trying to be popular with his own citizens whilst secretly supporting the war. if they hadn't said they would veto everything they could of passed a second resolution ammended to give iraq a few more weeks to show they are disarming and then they couldn't of justified war for a few more weeks.

By timb
