What is punk? Is it an attitude/mode of thinking, a music style, a subculture? According to my uncle Peter, punk is a 'raucous noise', though it must be said he sounded approving as he said this (this was during one of those 'is there such a thing as punk these days' conversations). So is there such a thing as punk these days? I don't want this thread to focus on specific bands too much, just what punk is really about and how its changed?

Didn't Kendra do a thread on this a while back? I've done a search but for some reason I can't find it. Bob probably deleted it when he was mod.

true punk of the 70's wasn't about the music, 'punk people' were more united by the fashion and sentiment of anti-establishment.

gaspode has it right, go to the head of the class.

sidla was right too. i did make a thread about this.

anyhow. punk is just doing things your way, and should be the ultimate diy ethic. there is often loud "punk rock" music accompanying it to articulate the frustrations of the day. people listen to crass. i have green hair.

Punk is about a lot of things, and if your not these your a sell out.
Punk bands should always be on an independant label, even better a DIY label.
Punk isnt really a fashion, there is a punk fashion, but wearing whatever you want is also punk. Every punk kid when they are big into a scene, should start there own band or zine. If your in a punk band sound isnt important, you just play really really fast, your own songs are not nessacery just cover Pop songs but do them better and ten times fast. Punk dudes are liberal minded and not discriminating, they take interest in politics. There are some typs of Punk that do racist music and stuff but not many people like them. Punk bands should belive in free music and shouldnt really be arsed about profit, they should constantly do shows wherever and whenever. Erm i cant think of any more, but kendra will come on and say thats totally unpunk to me or summat.

hahaha! sorta.

i dunno. punk just is, just as calling something unpunk or saying you're really pun kisn't quite punk. it's one of those ellusive ideas like "cool."

do you consider punk just to be music? an attitude? a way of life? or is it fashion?

as for safet pin accidents. i have a safety pin necklace a made (to mock the rise of "punk" fashion), it jabbed my neck and i beld a bunch. i'm contemplating taking the thing off.

Punk is a way of life and a style of rock. Which is nothing like Sum 41.
