I can't think of anything 'funny' to say,but if anyody wants to add their own witty comment then feel free. But I'm sure we will find out in August how 'intelligent' I actually am.

Doesn't really prove intelligence though, just that you can rehash information that's been told to you! You could get straight As if you had a brilliant memory. I hate the way that exams are used as a measure of intelligence. :(

Yeah. Welcome back!

exa/\/\s usually test your understanding of given principles and /\/\ethods , not just re/\/\e/\/\bering certain infor/\/\ation.

They don't though in general I think.

Maybe as an example, Maths exams do - as they can word the questions in a specific way so you have to have some grasp of the subject and how it works to be able to apply your knowledge rather than just regurgitating it.

But looking at my AS Psychology exam last year, you're not allowed to give your OWN opinions - you have to write about the cases, & what other people think, basically if you learn all of the information you're taught parrot fashion then you have a good chance of getting a high grade. That's definitely true at GCSE standard, possibly getting less true as you go onto a higher level - but I'm not sure.

Its a mixture of the two at degree level. You get told the theories then you have to read around them and then provide some opinion but only when backed up by the existing literature. However if your memory was excellent you would be able to succeed at this level by just recalling the so called experts.

people who think its all memory are those that dont do as well. you dont need to remember everything at all its the applying of knowledge. my a-level history teacher told me if i couldnt remember quotes to just make one to back up my statements and put a name next to it... and he was one of the people in charge of setting the a-level exams for the whole country.

co/\/\puter science is very /\/\uch about /\/\ethods, advantages and disadvantages, you do have to give your own opinion on several things and you asked to do things as well, like take so/\/\e given infor/\/\ation and produce the so/\/\ething else for it.

Well in the boring world of business theory we cant turn it around its as if we are not allowed to voice our own opinion right or not without backing it up.

Good to know, thanks!

Disappointing that they haven’t replaced Pippa in […]
