I was idly thinking today... why don't vegetarians lick envelopes??
Now, I know envelopes used to (and probably still do) use animal fat as part of the sticky stuff. But, what I can't figure is why don't vegetarians lick them. It basically boils down to why vegetarians are vegetarians. I figure people may be vegetarian for three reasons:
1. They are allergic to meat (or something in it).
2. They don't condone killing animals.
3. They just don't like eating meat.
For #1, it's fair enough... they can't lick the envelopes for fear of a reaction/death. For #2 then they've already "killed" the animal (or supported the killing of it) by buying the envelopes so where's the harm in using the device for which it's meant. For #3 it's not meat... it's fat, so where's the problem??
I know some people just don't like the texture/taste of the gum stuff, but that can't account for everyone. I just can't figure out why veggies don't lick envelopes. Fairly random I know, but I'd still like to know
