· Intel Pentium 4 processor with a clock speed of 2.7 GHz - Above average processor & motherboard.
· 256 MB DDR RAM expandable to 1 GB - DDR RAM is needed to run on the more advanced motherboard above, 256mb is the standard though
· 40 GB 7200rpm hard disk drive - Sufficient space for most people, unless you've got a lot of mp3s or have a digital camera
· 16-speed DVD with movie playback software - Standard speed dvd reader
· CD-RW drive (40 x 40 x 16) - Will let you copy cds and rewrite to rewritable cds, but not dvds
· 64-bit stereo sound card - Reasonable sound card
· Powerful 150 W stereo speaker system - Pretty good
· 1.44 Mb floppy drive - Nuff said
· Mini-tower case - Bit small for all the stuff that is going in it, could overheat
· 64 MB high-performance graphics card - High performance could mean anything, but 64mb is alright
· 2 USB high speed ports plus parallel and serial ports - USB is taking over now so the more modern stuff you have, the more ports you'll need (eg digital cameras, printers etc)
· 19-inch colour monitor - Big
· Windows keyboard - Has an extra button that older keyboards don't have
· Microsoft PS2 Intellimouse - Has scroll button
· Microsoft Windows XP Home with manuals and CD - Pretty standard operating system now, but personally I don't like it
· Norton Anti-virus 2003 - Useful
· 56k V92 PCI Modem - Also useful, unless you want broadband connection instead

· Intel Pentium 4 processor with a clock speed of 2.7 GHz

Means it can process 2,700,000,000 bits in 1 second.

· 256 MB DDR RAM expandable to 1 GB

Memory that can temporarily store 268,435,456 bytes of data and works at double speed to normal RAM. You can also add memory so it can store up to a maximum of 1,073,741,824 bytes.

· 40 GB 7200rpm hard disk drive
A disk drive that can temporarily or permanently store 42,949,672,960 bytes of data and runs at 7200 revolutions per minute.

· 16-speed DVD with movie playback software
A DVD drive that runs at 16x the standard speed, and comes with software for playing DVD videos.

· CD-RW drive (40 x 40 x 16)
A re-writeable CD drive that can read an entire 74 minute/640MB CD in 1 minute 51 seconds, write an entire 74 minute/640MB CD in 1 minute 51 seconds, and write to a 74 minute/640MB re-writeable CD in 4 minutes 37.5 seconds.

· 64-bit stereo sound card
A sound card that can play 64-bit stereo sound. Anything over 16 bit is pretty pointless really.

· Powerful 150 W stereo speaker system
Big f**k off speakers.

· 1.44 Mb floppy drive
A floppy drive that can read and write to 1,509,949.44 byte floppy disks.

· Mini-tower case
A mini tower case.

· 64 MB high-performance graphics card
A high performance graphics card with 67,108,864 bytes of temporary graphical storage.

· 2 USB high speed ports plus parallel and serial ports
2 high speed USB ports and parallel (printer) and serial (mouse/obsolete) ports.

· 19-inch colour monitor
A monitor that measures 19 inches between diagonal corners, presumably able to display at least 16,777,216 colours.

· Windows keyboard
A keyboard with a start key and a right click key.

· Microsoft PS2 Intellimouse
A mouse that plugs into a PS2 port probably with a ball or wheel or something on top.

· Microsoft Windows XP Home with manuals and CD
Ronseal.

· Norton Anti-virus 2003
Anti-virus software 2003 edition.

· 56k V92 PCI Modem
A modem that can connect to an ISP at download speed of 57,344 bits per second and an upload speed of 33,792 bits per second.

It's possible, but you'd probably have to put each episode on a seperate CD.

All you need to know Adam is that if you put an additional 256 (or more) meg of ram inside it'll go like shit off a shovel.

the ram is not enough, the graphics card and modem both probably suck

Depends what he's doing - that might be enough RAM, and RAM's cheap enough that he can upgrade for little cost. As for the graphics card, it'll probably be good enough to cope with most things, and you can't just assume a modem is going to be crap because it's described as a 56K modem.

i would of posted my full report here if i had seen this thread before the message. anyway, most internal modems are software modems, which does make them crap. given the fact that its a retail pc the modem, graphics card and sound card are usuallyareas retail menufacturers skimp on, you may even find that they are all 'on-board' which means they aren't seperate cards. as long as you check that the motherboard has an ACTUAL AGP SLOT (not just AGP graphics) then you should be able to upgrade at will anything that turns out to suck.

To put it simply it'll go (faster than mine). but if you want video then you'll need a bigger hard drive. but as I said before it'll go on the net and play games.
