Personally I don't think drop-down menu's are a great idea, they can often be annoying, and if people don't have javascript enabled they've got a problem (unless you do it in Flash of course, but is that really worth it?).

It's not a bad design, although I'm not sure if I like the orange scheme, reminds me of a certain mobile operator...

I quite like the vertical lines separating the main part of the page from the sides, but as was mentioned earlier, there is a lot of white space, which isn't always a bad thing but it does look a little sparse in the example.

So endeth my two pennies worth.

Most people do have Javascript enabled these days. That's like saying you should avoid frames in case someone doesn't have a browser that supports them. Flash is ok on broardband, but it takes ages to download on dial-up.

You'd be suprised mate, and if you're designing a site with cross browser and cross platform functionality in mind javascript can cause some headaches.

I tend to avoid frames, not because browsers can't cope with them, but because there are other problems inherent with frames - users can't bookmark a certain page in your site for example.

its a template at the moment so it just shows the general layout, white space wouldnt be an issue

i could easily make a flash navigation exactly like the top one is less than 2kb.. as long as you dont import pixelated graphics its not an issue

nice of you to insult sidla like that. anyway i believe the total count of people who thought the new design was crap to be 4. another couple of people sat on the fence and then 2 people liked the new one. i don't know what your definition of 'everyone' is but 50% is not usually it.

most of my posts in the jesus thread were not attempts at comedy, they were mocking an overly stupid religion.

and no my sense of humour has nothing wrong with it. saying someone is stupid would only be considered comedy by a <6 yearold kid. i tend to prefer a more sophisticated form of comedy than it seems none of you are capable of generating.
