The reason they bid is to carrying on the illusion that we are still a big player on the international stage. Its more a political move rather than any interest in bringing a great sporting occasion to this country.
The bid alone will cost 13million and a further 5bn to stage does anyone know where this money comes from? You guessed it folks the tax payer, and considering the average age on this board we will all foot the bill for years to come.
I seriously doubt London will be successful because a) the transports crap. b) there is not enough hotel rooms to accomodate the extra population during the games and c) the weather.
My moneys on New York

New York are going for it? thats a dead cert then. sympathy vote and all that. ''we've lost our big pretty towers but we can still host an international sports event''

as for Britain getting the 'lympics i dont see any great problem with it, lord only knows this countries image is stupidly stereotyped around the world, time to set the record straight methinks.

of course its political an new york will have a good chance but you can be too cynical you know? The fact is we are still a major country in political, economic and sporting terms.

also the last couple of olympics have made a profit through tourism etc leaving a legacy of increased jobs and better sporing facilities.

Apologies for cynicism there is no doubt it will bring money but if unsuccesful what happens? The real winner will be the judges as they always award the olympics to the distributer of the biggest bribes. The olympic movement - corrupt to the core

welcome to the rreal world. of course they will go to the biggest bribes, you cant blame them.the only one that was drastically wrong was the 1996 olympics, that was the anniversary and should have went to Athens, where it all started. instead they went to atlanta, home of coca-cola....the olympics biggest sponsor.

Paris looked like a good bid, it's Europe's turn really. London doesn't seem that of a great idea, and why does it have to be in London anyway? It could be anywhere around the country.

i agree - why not just take it to manchester like i said. improve what they have there already. wasting all that money that could go on something else.

Manchester would be a problem

as the Athletics stadium is now Man Citys ground without a running track

well they got a while to change that. it not gonna happen for another 9 years. athens is happening soon and they hardly got themselves going.

Make all the commuters work from home for a while. The transport system in London is OK, just gets a bit busy ssometimes.

Just come to MK, then you see a shit transport system compared to anywhere you like.

They would have to spend a lot on it, but it could happen.

Oh, another major sporting event is on next week... World Table Tennis Championships. And I know one of the participants. (that is the first and last time I mention that.)

Good to know, thanks!
