I called into my local PC World today as I wanted a new mouse for when I go away next week. Normally I don't shop there but their price was the same and they had stock.

So there I am heading to the checkout with my £25 Microsoft notebook optical mouse (BTW it's very very small) when a sales drone jumps out at me from behind a stack of PCs.

Drone "It's a good mouse that sir"
Me "err yer"
Drone "do you need any help"
Me "no. I have what I came for"
Drone "Would you be interested in our cover plan for your new purchace"
Me "It's a £25 mouse"
Drone "Well yes but you can cover it against breakdown and accidental damage for 3 years"
Me "Well it's a MS mouse so comes with 2 years as standard"
Drone "Yes but you could cover it for 3 years"
Me "So how much"
Drone "£12.99"
Me "But the mouse only costs £25"
Drone "But you will get 3 years protection"
Me "But it already comes with 2 years and I am not paying £12.99 for something that only costs £25"
Drone "But you would not be covered against loss or damage"
Me "How can I loose it? It has this little cable that connects it to my laptop so I always know where is is. Besides, it lights up in the dark"
Drone "But what if you stepped on it?"
Me "If I ever go walking on my desk, you will be the first to know. In the meantime, I am really not bothered"
Drone "Okay I'll do you a deal".
Me "Hmmmm"
Drone "If I do the warranty for free, will you take it?"

So now if I manage to walk across my desk and step on my new mouse, I will get a new one but for gods sake, it's only a £25 mouse!!!

As you said you shouldn't of gone to PC World. I often lose my mouse though...

80% of the dixons group which owns PC world and curries turnover is extended warrantaries

my mum orders stuff we need through work so its cheaper anyway because of business discount or whatever it is. stuff like cartridges i go to office world, staples etc

Dad gets most of our stuff from his work. Consumerables I'll get from somewhere like Argos, WH Smith, John Lewis, etc....doesn't really matter much. Hardware I'll get from somewhere with a really good reputation, customer services, etc like John Lewis.

Personally I think their contoured, optical mouse with the scrolyl wheel and the two extra buttons on the sides is the mutts nuts.
